Following Obama's State of the Union address last night was a response by Senator Marco Rubio.. But following Senator Rubio's response was an unconventional "shout-out" to Young Americans for Freedom by the one-and-only Chris Matthews.. Referencing Rubio's speech, Matthews declared:.. "It was almost like a YAF-er convention speech, Young Americans for Freedom speech, from the 1950s.. There was no originality to it.. It was basic.. Again, it was Tinkertoys.. It was a kid's presentation of a philosophy reduced to maybe the 9th grade level.. I'm sorry, that's what it was.. There's just one thing, Chris.. Young Americans for Freedom didn't exist in the 1950s.. Young Americans for Freedom was founded in 1960 at the home of William F.. Buckley, Jr.. in Sharon, Connecticut, and spawned the very movement you detest.. Its alumni include the gentleman responsible for ushering in the greatest peacetime economic expansion in history  ...   Mark Levin, just to name a few.. These patriots have made careers out of exposing others to the ideas you hate, and guess what? There are thousands of young people bringing up the ranks ready to fight leftist stalwarts like you on their campuses and in the media, and you've just inspired them.. What was obviously meant to be insulting actually turned out to be quite complimentary.. Associate a speech by a rising star in the Conservative Movement with the premiere youth outreach organization of the Conservative Movement (Tinkertoys, aside)? Thanks Chris.. Descriptive info: Oregon's “Tuition Equity” Bill Holds a Hidden Agenda.. 2/12/2013 5:02:33 PM.. Posted by Kate Edwards.. By: Gabriella Morrongiello.. The quickest way to befriend a child is to hand them candy.. Want to assure a permanent life-long supporter of liberal policies? Hand out government subsidized programs.. That's exactly the motive behind the "Tuition Equity" bill that has been adopted in many states and is now coming before the newly left-winged majority legislature of Oregon.. What so many fail to ask when advocating government handouts such as food stamps, housing vouchers, health care or reduced college tuition for children of illegal immigrants is: at whose expense will these programs be covered?.. In the case of Oregon House Bill 2787, which proposes allowing children of illegal immigrants residing in Oregon to benefit from in-state tuition at publicly-funded universities, it is my mother and father who will shoulder the financial burden.. I am a sophomore at Oregon State and one of the 8,906 out-of-state students currently attending the university.. Compared to an Oregon resident who pays roughly $8,000 annually in tuition, my parents foot a $22,000 bill each year.. My tuition is substantially higher to help compensate the Oregon taxpayer for the use of the bricks and mortar, the cost of faculty and administrator salaries, pensions and benefits, and maintenance and upkeep of the campus grounds.. Illegal immigrants whose children attend Oregon high schools are not paying taxes to cover the expenses for Oregon public universities either.. If these individuals wish to have their child attend an Oregon university, I believe they ought to pay out-of-state tuition just as my parents do.. The parents of these children, who entered this country illegally, are either being paid their wages in cash, as part of the "underground economy," or by check from employers who are not withholding the income taxes they must take from legitimate, legal workers.. Additionally, their children are attending public grade schools and high schools that are paid for by property and state income taxes of legal residents.. What is "fair and equitable" about that?.. People break the laws of the United States when they immigrate to our country illegally.. The children these individuals bring with them become a financial burden to the community in which they reside with impunity.. This is not to say these children are at fault; many are excellent citizens that work hard academically and in their community.. That however, is irrelevant.. As an out-of-state student, I do all that I can to help lessen the financial burden my parents reap because of my choice to attend college outside of California.. I wait tables, am a paid reporter for my campus newspaper, and must keep an exemplary GPA to earn and maintain an $8,000 tuition reduction.. Nevertheless, it is still my parents who shoulder the greatest cost.. I don't believe my hard-working, self-employed parents should face increasing tuition hikes to cover the certainty of burgeoning expenses at my university due to sky rocketing enrollment of "Tuition Equity" students.. As availability becomes more affordable, enrollment and the need for more faculty, administrators, bricks and mortar will increase.. This will all be at a cost to the Oregon tax payer.. Shifting the cost for the child of an illegal immigrant to attend college to me and my parents is not tuition equity, but rather confiscation and redistribution.. These high school students can do exactly as I have done: get multiple jobs, work exceptionally hard in school, and if need be, take longer than some to graduate.. This legislation is about giving candy to a child, and future voter, to befriend them.. It is about giving government mandated "goodies" to young, largely Hispanic future voters most likely to support the liberal agenda.. It sickens me to watch the theft and manipulation of law-abiding Americans by politicians to feed their political agendas.. This legislation is a veiled attempt to create a permanent voting block indebted to one political party for yet another government hand out.. Gabriella Morrongiello is a sophomore at Oregon State University, and chairman of the OSU Young Americans for Freedom.. Great article!.. Posted by Dan on 02/13/2013.. Bravo Gabriella! You tackled this sensitive subject better than many well seasoned journalists have.. Posted by Spicy Mexican Salsa on 02/13/2013.. I was impressed by your essay, but not persuaded.. (1) Your intro claims that pandering to.. well, someone.. is exactly the motive behind the Tuition Equity bill.. You don t quite say who that someone is.. Do you mean to claim that Dems pander to Latino voters, or just to the handful of students who will be eligible for in-state tuition under the bill? The closest you come to a clear account is near the end of your essay, where you write This legislation is about giving candy to a child, and future voter, to befriend them.. It is about giving government mandated goodies to young, largely Hispanic future voters most likely to support the liberal agenda.. This introduces a new ambiguity, though.. While earlier you suggested that Tuition Equity was a ploy to convert (future?) voters to liberalism, here you suggest that it s a reward for those likely to support  ...   Be aware that what these public servants backed by the left in Oregon, will accmplish, is a transfer of power to the illegal foreign national and away from the citizens of Oregon.. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED OREGONIANS.. Just keep falling, Oregonians, for the so called leftist equality racket, and you soon won t have any.. In California, the illegal foreign nationals, have all the rights to the resources and services that California citizens paid into for years, but cannot now access.. In fact, illegal foreign nationals in California, especially those from Mexico who are the greatest number of people illegally in the state, can even access all of the citizens paid for resources, in Spanish.. Good luck kiddies, Oregons leaders are clearly interested in redistributing your rights to those who should not even be in Oregon.. California is now a satelite of Mexico, Oregon is next on the list of the Equalitarians.. Posted by Bobby on 02/26/2013.. By the way, Oregonians, students in California s once fantastic education system are now suffering because community colleges, state universities, and other schools GOT NO DOUGH.. So, it s bring your own supplies and pay for them, and don t bother us administraitors that these things used to be paid for before we allowed millions of people to attend these schools that were not supposed to.. But what the heck, we beaurocrats, and college administraitors that allowed all of this, are now retired and sucking a fat pension from California citizens left with the bill.. STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES, OREGONIANS.. And Californians in the past, have been very stupid indeed.. If knowledge is not used, it s simply useless.. GET A CLUE.. Posted by California subject of Mexico on 02/26/2013.. Gabriella, Thanks for your thoughtful and incisive comments.. As a retired OSU faculty member, I strongly support your views on the granting of in-state status to the children of illegal aliens.. As a faculty member at OSU for 32 years I saw many out-of-state students like you work hard to pay their higher tuition.. I don t recall any of them complaining about the situation.. It seems a shame to grant in-state status for presumably political ends.. I m sure that many who support the Dream Act do so out of a humanitarian motive, but that doesn t make such support reasonable.. Best wishes in your education at a fine institution.. Posted by Dr.. David Willis on 02/26/2013.. So according to Lyneil it s good to hear from a member of the age group that will have to scramble harder for the opportunities we all knew when we were younger, before illegal immigration flooded the country.. Yeah, so when was there NOT a time when immigrants were coming to this country? Never.. I might also add that recent immigration trends have shown that there certainly is no flood of immigrants into this country.. Another thing is that people who immigrate to the United States from various places in Latin America are more than likely fleeing economic and social conditions that we helped create.. Thanks to NAFTA, the United States can export food items at a far lower cost than some countries can produce, so we send our food down there, screw the local farmers and laborers out of their economy, and so they have no choice but to pursue a better life elsewhere.. That is just one example.. Another thing you failed to notice is that a lot of these students seeking tuition equity could already be considered Oregon residents.. They were brought here when they were young, too young to have any control, and we want to punish them by telling them to return to a country they no longer know.. As far as breaking the law when people immigrate here, in my opinion that shouldn t invalidate them from henceforth being denied benefits or whatever.. If a kid illegally crosses the road on his bike and gets hit by a car, do we deny him medical attention because he crossed the street illegally in the first place? It s flawed logic, as if by breaking one law you are no longer worthy of anything but punishment and disenfranchisement.. I might add that anyone who has gone over the speed limit (which endangers A LOT of people, and is even more dangerous, say, than a family coming here looking for work) is a lawbreaker.. Look, I m a student too, paying way too much to go to school.. But that is not the fault of the immigrants.. Blame austerity, blame university chancellors and deans making six-figure incomes, blame bank bailouts, blame inflated military spending.. Your anger is justified, but completely and totally misguided and lacking any sort of facts or substantial research.. Posted by NevadoZ on 02/26/2013.. What has happened and is continuing to happen in California, is justification enough, to end illegal immgration and deport those border criminals that come to the U.. S.. and suck the resources and social programs dry, THAT WERE CREATED, NOT FOR THEM, BUT FOR THE CITIZENS THAT PAID INTO THEM!! It s high treason and a betrayal of the U.. citizens by any other name..

Descriptive info: DePaul's Double Standard.. 2/11/2013 4:11:41 PM.. Posted by Patrick Coyle.. By Kate Edwards.. The recent.. vandalism of a pro-life flag display.. set up by the DePaul University Young Americans for Freedom has sent shockwaves through the conservative media, being reported on by the Daily Caller, Fox News, The Huffington Post, LifeNews and several others.. So, one would imagine that DePaul University, the largest Catholic University in America, would publicly apologize for the blatant attack on free speech, and would take steps to ensure something like this never happens again.. Wrong.. Worse than the muted response and support given to the DePaul Young Americans for Freedom, is that when liberals are offended at DePaul University, all sorts of things happen to ensure they are kept happy.. Nicholas Hahn at.. Real Clear Religion.. showcases how he was treated by the DePaul administration when his conservative club dared to challenge.. liberal sensibilities.. :.. Your humble correspondent is an alumnus of DePaul University and in January of 2006 my conservative student organization held an Affirmative Action Bake Sale that sold baked goods at different prices depending on ethnicity.. The bake sale was designed to demonstrate racial preferences in Affirmative Action policies.. Amid student protests, the University shut down our bake sale.. After a lengthy investigation, our group was censured, suspended from applying for student organization activities funds, and forced to participate in an "educational project" with the ulterior aim of re-educating us.. Fr.. Holtschneider even penned a University-wide email denouncing our event as "blatantly offensive," and that it didn't "rise to the level of DePaul's commitment to create a welcoming atmosphere for all.. Unfortunately, that's not the end of the story.. In March of that year, campus buildings had been vandalized with racist graffiti scribbled on walls during the early morning hours and warranted yet another University-wide email from Fr.. Holtschneider.. In an embarrassing fit of melodrama, Fr.. Holtschneider wrote that he was in New York, but would rush back to campus at once! to "reaffirm our commitment to fostering a welcoming environment" and to host a "solidarity prayer vigil.. What's more, a University spokesperson.. told.. WBBM that the campus had been "politically charged" since my student organization's bake sale and that it "certainly created some dialogue about Affirmative Action policies and practices about minorities on campus.. What Fr.. Holtschneider opportunely omitted from his version of events was that some of the graffiti accompanied a "from the College Republicans" signature.. My friends and I were questioned and cleared of all wrongdoing.. After all the town hall meetings, grieving sessions, and candle light vigils, the "hate incident" was a.. hoax.. intended to frame my student organization.. The University's shameful attempt to connect our bake sale to racist graffiti came and went, apparently without  ...   of by DePaul University s Judicial Review Process.. My favorite part of this story, Kate Edwards and everyone else with you lost in right field, is that the names of these students, who willingly came forward to admit participation, have now been targeted and harassed because of all these articles, including the one in which you provided their names.. I am ashamed to be a member of DePaul University s student body because of this constant back and forth.. The University took care of these events in a manner that is appropriate, and I am proud of their reactions.. One thing I think all of you right-wing conservatives should remember is that, yes you have the freedom to speak, which you demonstrated with your obnoxious, and frankly useless, display of your pro-life position, but no one wants to listen to this debate.. Having a display in the Quad doesn t convince anyone to support pro-life.. In fact, no one even understood what the display was; most students assumed it was a sorority display.. I m not even a liberal, so I hope you take this to heart; quit being so in people s faces.. The time and place for debate is not for a college campus where your ridiculous overreactions have permanently damaged the lives of many students.. You continually disrupt DePaul with your bake sales and flags, so take it from me, a true Moderate: you are the cause of all your struggles, and if you would stop provoking people who just want to go to class without having to step through a display that only your organization and political ideologists support, DePaul University can heal its reputation.. If you want a debate, have a civilized conversation with your adversaries, but don t be so ridiculous that your groups want to pursue legal action, and say things like the students deserve their harassment.. Would a petulant irresponsible child willingly come forward and accept the consequences of their wrongdoing?.. Posted by Winston Sayre on 02/14/2013.. So basically you had a bake-sale to show that you were actually a fucking racist and got mad when the University was like sorry we don t support your racism? Conservatives might be the dumbest people on planet Earth.. Descriptive info: Popular Concealed Carry Measure Undermined by Student Government.. 2/11/2013 3:04:23 PM.. By Brendan Pringle.. The state of Ohio does not allow concealed carry in its public universities, but that is not stopping a University of Toledo conservative club from making it an issue of debate.. The club proposed that the university issue a resolution that endorsed changing state law to allow concealed carry on college campuses, and took their fight to the student senate for a vote.. After a heated meeting, the University of Toledo Student Senate decided to delay their vote on the resolution by two weeks.. They reasoned that this would give enough time for a campus-wide survey about the issue in order to better gauge student opinion on concealed carry.. In response, the club organized an empty holster protest, and many non-club members reportedly joined in the movement.. The reaction was extraordinary.. Just over 25 percent of the student population participated in the survey, and of those students, about 49 percent supported the resolution, 45 percent opposed and 6 percent were neutral.. Despite these results, the student senate voted down the resolution 18-9 through a secret ballot last week.. The meeting began with a statement from the student judiciary council arguing that the resolution was "unconstitutional.. When asked by the club if it was in violation of the student government constitution, the Ohio State Constitution, or the Federal Constitution, the Justice had no comment and refused to take questions.. Then, University of Toledo health professor Dr.. Amy Thompson addressed the senate on why the resolution was a bad idea.. Thompson neglected to.. disclose.. the fact that she was formerly a.. paid, anti-gun  ...   found out that the students want concealed carry on campus, and since the Student Senate refuses to represent them, our club will be their voice and fight for change.. Wow,I have a mouthful to say,but I will keep it short and sweet.. The University of Toledo Student Senate needs to get a spine, the student judiciary council needs to read the constitution, and get a brain,Dr.. Amy Thompson needs to stop being duplicitous and get a conscience, and as for Patrick Richardson, the club member that is fighting for his rights and for policy change, well he already has the courage, the heart and the brains.. Descriptive info: Is Oregon's Tuition Equity Legislation Really Equal?.. 2/6/2013 4:07:57 PM.. California, New York and even Texas have already passed controversial "tuition equity" legislation for illegal immigrant students.. Now, Oregon is trying to follow suit, and has just introduced legislation on the issue.. This proposed legislation would permit Oregon high school graduates living in the U.. illegally to attend public universities for in-state tuition rates.. In response to the pressure to remain "inclusive," Oregon university presidents, the Oregon Education Association, and the American Federation of Teachers have backed these proposals.. Could it be that these groups are simply crossing their fingers for more taxpayer funding?.. Regardless, someone has to pay for it, which means that either Oregon taxpayers or legal Oregon students have to take the hit.. The bill will ultimately force them to subsidize.. $14,000 of every illegal immigrant's education.. The legislation would incur a sharp decrease in revenue from the countless out-of-state students displaced by the new competition.. This does not even account for the broader impact of encouraging more illegal immigrants to break the law, which is already costing the state's taxpayers.. approximately $1 billion per year.. , according to estimates by the Foundation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).. In addition, the legislation remains blatantly unfair to  ...   to state-sponsored educational aid in the near future.. If that happens, Oregon students should plan for the same downward spiral of rising tuition and declining educational value in Oregon that we have seen in the Golden State.. Absolutely not.. It is simply not fair! They broke (or their parents did) the law coming here, they should recieve no benefits at all.. I live in CA, and it s a real problem here.. Posted by Kasey on 02/08/2013.. The parents may have broken the law.. The kids did not.. Kids are not responsible for their parents crimes.. The youngsters will become educated and make valuable contributions to Oregon s economy.. Posted by Domenico on 02/08/2013.. Did the kids of legal citizens break the law? No.. But they have to still pay triple the tuition of in-state students.. It s their lack of fortune that their parents decided to reside in a different state.. Posted by Dude on 02/09/2013.. State tuition has to to do with residents and the taxes people pay.. People pay taxes in one state.. Undocumented workers pay taxes.. They do.. Their kids therefore should benefit from in-state tuition.. Posted by on 02/09/2013.. Ay, mi madre!!! What part of this nation is broke do we not understand? Despierta ,America!!!..

Since then, DePaul YAF Chairman, Kristopher Del Campo, has been fighting for his free speech rights on campus by exposing the story and seeking campus and community support.. On February 5, 2013, DePaul University finalized their investigation of the vandalism, and released the names of the students involved.. The students who came forward were identified by security video camera footage.. The report should disturb anyone who values free expression, as those involved show no regard for free speech.. If they were so offended by the pro-life flag display, why not hold a counter-program showing their views? Instead, they just decided to destroy the display.. Using their logic, a conservative who finds a "condom display", "The Vagina Monologues" or any number of liberal activities on campus offensive would have a right to destroy it.. Free speech matters.. See the report below:.. Now the question remains: what action will DePaul University take against these students? YAF Chairman Del Campo, with the help of the Dean of Students, is filing charges against the students through the judicial process of the university.. The dean of students is helping Del Campo through this process.. Action must be taken against these students or other liberals will have free license to continue to squelch the ideas of conservatives on campus.. Kate Edwards is the Program Officer for chapter services for Young Americans for Freedom, a project of Young America's Foundation.. I would think that the controversy that has come out of this is probably reason enough for students of any mindset to consider their actions more strongly in the future.. We ve all seen what happened, and the chaos of reactions following it, and I m not sure why you insist that draconian punishments are an extremely necessary way to ensure free speech in the future.. Can t you trust the student body to learn from some people s mistakes? If not totally, at least somewhat?.. Posted by Michael on 02/06/2013.. It is very wrong to post first and last names of people without their knowing on a random third party website who was not involved at all.. If this happened on DePaul s campus how did you get the report? If there was such outrage why risk prosecution with slander? What do you hope happens to these college students? Please, let me know.. You went to such lengths to post names.. You got the report somehow.. Are you hoping for people to try to find them on social media? It seems to encourage people to be liberal with their curse words and slander.. I know conservatives don t like liberal things.. Do you hope employers see their names? This is sick and malicious.. Liberal or Conservative I need to know how leaking the names for something less than a misdemeanor is alright?.. Posted by Raych on 02/06/2013.. Raych, it is totally appropriate to publish their names.. What they did was wrong and THEY OWN IT.. Evidently they were not worried about having their names shown publicly or they would not have done such a thing.. They should have used their voices if they did not like what was being done.. This actually has NOTHING to do with liberals or conservatives.. It has to do with treading on someones right to free speech which they also had but decided to go another route.. They brought this on themselves and now must face up to it.. Posted by linda setters on 02/06/2013.. I am curious as to why my post showing Del Campo had an outstanding arrest warrant in Florida has been deleted from this blog when you are willing to publish the names of the students who have not even been brought before a committee??? Practice what you preach - Del Campo is as GUILTY as your caption indicates these students to be.. Now the question remains: what action will the State of Florida take against Del Campo?.. Posted by Nancy on 02/06/2013.. This is a response to Nancy.. I am surpised that you are resorting to attacking my personal life.. If you, Nancy, would take a look at the court docket of the State of Florida, you would see my case is closed and charges were withdrawn.. It is in the process of being sealed by the state.. Please check your facts first before making an assumption.. I am not a criminal by any means, it was a lack of judgement of forgetting to pay a bounced check.. Those 13 DePaul students vandalized private property that did not belong to them.. I fighting for free speech on this campus community, and my private record has nothing to do with that.. If you have nothing better to do than attack me, and not present your own ideas you re just fooling yourself, and not representing yourself on this blog very well.. I am proud for my major accomplishments in life.. And no one is by any means perfect, but God.. I have made mistakes in my life as well.. This matter regarding the removal of the pro-life flag display that I am fighting so hard for is against DePaul University, and the students who do not tolerate freedom of expression!.. Posted by Kristopher Del Campo on 02/06/2013.. Nancy, your post is a cheap shot at Kris and has nothing to do with the destruction of the pro-life display at DePaul.. It is sad you are trying to intimidate Kris instead of engaging in a debate of ideas.. The DePaul students mentioned in the above blog post could have engaged Kris in a civil debate, but instead chose to toss the flags in the trash.. They admitted their guilt to the investigator and now they must deal with the consequences.. Posted by Patrick on 02/06/2013.. To Kristopher: Political views aside, publishing the internal records of a university so publicly like this is in direct violation of FERPA, and infringes on student s right to privacy.. I think its safe to assume those involved wouldn t have given consent to the disclosure of their information and this document.. THIS publication is a cheap shot and doesn t accomplish anything other than an attempt at public humiliation.. prohibits the improper disclosure of personally identifiable information derived from education records http://www2.. ed.. gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/students.. html In direct relation to DePaul: http://offices.. depaul.. edu/depaul-central/student-resources/faq/Pages/privacy.. Posted by Ali G.. on 02/06/2013.. This is an absolute disgrace.. Whoever published this should be ashamed of themselves.. Congradulations on your beat down on these girls over and over and over again.. That s gonna solve a lot.. Nobody was there to protect your display and talk your opinions/views out.. Instead you chose to leave your display there and let it do the talking.. People who hold the opposite view of things (which I m sure there are a few of in a university such as de Paul) are obviously going to react negatively.. It only take a handful of oppisites with, what seems to be as strong a stance for their opinions as yourselves for something like this to end up happening.. This has been blown up to ridiculous mind numbing proportions because a freedom of speech tag line has been attached to this happening by a few extremists with a good bit of spare time looking for revenge.. I cannot understand how these names were released into your hands, and moreover I can t fathom how you have been allowed to/ how you could think you are even entitled to name and shame these people!?.. Posted by Killian on 02/06/2013.. listing the names was fine.. The school released them when they sent the letter.. You people seem to be more upset about the names than the event that started this.. If this had been a pro choice display I bet you would be much harsher here at the students.. You don t have to like their viewpoint but unless you protect it next time it might you the view you favor abused.. Posted by Jer on 02/07/2013.. I won’t reveal your first name to the entire internet because I’m a nice person, but I’m not entirely convinced that you are.. Sometimes, there is a thin line between ignorance and malice.. We’ve all done something oppressive without realizing it, myself included.. But this time we’re talking about you, not me.. The amazing elder femmes in my life warned me about folks like you, S.. I told them my anxieties about being read as queer and was advised to aggressively hit on everyone I was interested in.. I took this to be sound advice.. I mean, who doesn’t want to be hit on by a cute femme in thigh highs? Maybe queers who don’t like femmes in thigh highs, but I attribute this to an orientation, not a reflection on my relative stroke-ability meter.. You see, S, I’ve developed a confidence that one could describe as almost ethereal.. I like to think of it as a confidence whose gravitational pull is so strong that it causes planets to revolve around it and cute queers to buy me strong drinks.. A cosmic, galactic sort of confidence.. In a world that actively attempts to destroy the self-worth of women and queers, this confidence is revolutionary, intentional and carefully cultivated on my part.. This confidence is a gift that I chose to bestow upon you when I asked you to dance.. The nice thing about having a confidence that exists in the cosmos is that it exists outside of the realm of your touch.. It will continue to exist no matter how you respond to me.. Sometimes, though, this confidence is a defense mechanism, built up as a reaction to folks like you.. You erased and invalidated me, despite the fact that I bothered to give the universe my beautiful femme presence by showing up to the queer dance night with perfume and thigh highs.. Do you know how hard it is to keep your thigh highs at an appropriate thigh high level when you’re traveling on multiple trains and buses? I don’t know a better definition of femme invisibility than to be asked if I am straight while I’m making out with you, S.. Why would you ask me that? Did you think about me and my otherworldly babe-itude and conclude that I was making out with you because I was confused? Experimenting? A sadist who likes to ruin the evenings of cute queers by making out with them and then announcing their heterosexuality with a gleeful laugh? I’m not that straight girl in high school who broke your heart.. I am not the personification of all of your femme-phobic and queer-phobic beliefs.. I am not your baggage.. My lips are on yours.. Why are you concerned about what other respective genders I might be interested in? What carefully policed cunnilingus performing communities are you a part of? I’d also like to address the fact that you seemed to be assuming that I was going home with you that evening.. Upon telling you that I was only interested in making out with you, you responded with “Why not?” Doll face, I should not have to legitimate my boundaries of consent to you.. While we were dancing, you started sucking on my neck without asking first.. Dancing does not necessarily equal making out.. Making out does not necessarily equal you putting your hand up my dress, which you also tried to do without asking me first.. Putting your hand up my dress does not necessarily equal me going home with you.. That’s called rape culture.. It’s really easy to internalize that sort of entitlement and misogyny towards my highly feminized gender presentation.. You should do some reading on consent because sometimes it’s exhausting to have to educate everyone, especially when you’re just trying to have a good time dancing.. However, I think the important thing to recognize about all of this is that you do not represent all queers.. I’ve had many experiences with queers and allies in my life who have always been affirming of both my gender presentation and my sexuality.. Most of my experiences with the queer community reflect our resilience and the incredible support structures we have built for each other.. Despite my disappointments with you, S, I have faith that you too can become an affirming ally to the femmes in our community.. You clearly want to make out with us, and so why don’t you do the work to recognize us and respect our boundaries? Even if you choose not to do this work, S, femmes will still continue to exist despite your attempts to erase us.. We will continue to hit on people of all genders that we are attracted to and have hot sex with people who respect us and our boundaries.. We are surviving, thriving and looking really fine in our dresses, heels, boots, fake eyelashes and bright red lipstick.. We will continue to be complex, intelligent, nurturing, political, creative, feminist, tough-as-nails-beautiful members of our queer community.. We will continue to show up to queer dance parties, even if no one asks us to dance.. We will arrive with our intergalactic confidence and expect you to respond accordingly.. Because if we aren’t a part of your universe, we should be.. Till we (never) meet again, Amanda Amanda Stefanski is a third year student at DePaul University, studying Women’s and Gender Studies.. Don t get me wrong, what was done was not appropriate, but the report says even the students ACKNOWLEDGE that so I m sure if the were even given a chance to come to you and reach out they would ve.. But instead, straight away, you and yours chose the more aggressive tactic and went after their heads at full speed.. NAILLIK - that you think that 13 students should have their present educations and future careers ruined, not to mention have over 150,000 dollars go down the toilet just because they tore down a few unguarded flags from a display they dosagreed with just goes to show your level of intelligence and weighing up of justice.. This wasn t an attack on your freedom, you re all so dramatic.. This was a spur of the moment decision that was all too easily enacted.. It was wrong, the students have admitted it was wrong.. You have violated students rights by doing this, makes perfect sense and sounds fair.. So no Jer, have to disagree with you there.. @ Ali G - Get your facts correct- FERPA is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, a federal statute that protects the privacy of education records.. The law specifically exempts the records of law enforcement units at colleges and universities.. Posted by ibjuju on 02/07/2013.. If Christian students had torn down LGBT displays, there would be outrage---and justifiably so.. The majority of students at depaul are not conservative.. Therefore, those students who are conservative should be afforded the special protections that other minorities enjoy.. One of those protections is the exemption from guilt and accountability.. After all, if you are a victim you don t have to obey the rules like everyone else does, right? Or does that argument only apply to certain politically correct groups? Perhaps this incident could be a viable starting point for discussions of tolerance and respect for differing viewpoints, particularly conservative ones.. How about a campus forum on the matter?.. Posted by stargirl on 02/07/2013.. @ibjuju - It doesn t exempt them from becoming a public record without the students consent.. I infer that the guilty students have not been punished at all for the incident.. (Maybe that s not the case, but the parting comment in the report that, golly, they know it was wrong, surely suggests that nothing more will be done.. ) This sends two horrific message to all would-be mob thugs: 1.. You can destroy and suppress speech you dislike RIGHT ON CAMERA and receive no punishment.. 2.. Be sure you do it OFF camera or with your face disguised.. That way you won t even end up with a disciplinary record.. The guilty students should be punished.. The hypocrisy of the Free Speech movement is that so-called free speech applies only to liberals who interrupt and rudely scream in one s face and not to conservatives who dispassionately argue, or display, their views.. Unfortunately, some undereducated students who find their way into higher education and to venues where they can vent and rant their liberal nonsense, find aid and comfort from a 60 s generation ahead of them who provide aid and comfort for their views.. As a former YAFer myself from the 60 s who carefully followed WFB Jr.. s example, orderly resistence must rule the day.. At the end of the day, a calm reflection on the civil rights movement, by application should yell loud and clear that if free speech, and expression within the confines of the rule of law and consideration for others, is denied to some, it is denied to all.. Stopping the freedom of speech of one person and threatening to remove him from the university is an abuse of power by the university and violates civil rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States.. If one thing is to be learned from these posts; liberals love the 1st amendment, as long as it remains convenient to them.. I agree with David s view that violating a person s right to free speech violates the US Constitution, 1st amendment, article 1; I would add that it also violates the very spirit of the US Constitution.. In one hand, you have a violation of the letter of the law, and in another a violation on the spirit of the law, the law being the US Constitution.. I believe political correctness culture (especially the PC Police), do their best to bankrupt speech, generally, of having any moral connotations or convictions.. This approach softens the impact of language we have been used to in our country, by removing the words used to essentially define good and evil.. Get rid of the language that defines good and evil, and you pave the way for evil to carry out it s work unhindered.. Here s an example: abortion is a softened even veiled version of infanticide, or the murdering of unborn children.. I define murder as the unjustified killing of one person by another.. Mere inconvenience to the mother is not grounds for justification of the murdering of an unborn child.. For more info on this --- www.. 180movie.. Posted by Jerry on 03/01/2013.. Not one dime of my money will ever go to support DePaul University while this incongruity exists In addition, I would sooner send a grandchild of mine to Brigham Young University, where Christian values are taught, and a student-signed code of conduct reflects the expectation of self-control.. I remember when students with a protest to make shut down the university because it would not officially close when Dr.. Martin Luther King, JR.. , was murdered.. Even though all students at the university had already paid for the classes they were prevented from attending by an outraged minority, the major media and other so-called Liberals all applauded their actions, and denigrated the attempt by the University to honor its contractual obligations.. It is about time that the Liberals learned that they are not above the law.. Conservatives need this too.. President Franklin Roosevelt - more than half his programs were thrown out as unconstitutional before the end of his second term.. President Truman - committed American troops to combat without any congressional authorization.. President Johnson - need I say more than Cambodia? President Nixon - Watergate itself was a farce, the cover-up was the illegality; but his most illegal action was taking the country off the gold standard, when Congress is specifically given the authority to determine what is legal tender.. Presidents Ford and Carter were both relatively well-behaved, probably a post-Watergate result.. President Reagan - committed American troops many places without congressional authorization, even invaded Grenada because the Soviet Union was constructing an airfield there, which of course we then took over and completed.. President Bush pater - changed an authorized defensive deployment in the Persian Gulf into a war of aggression against Iraq without congressional authorization.. President Clinton - launched several illegal attacks/bombardments primarily to deflect public attention from his personal failings, let alone committing perjury.. President Bush filius - another illegal war against Iraq.. President Obama - swore to faithfully execute the office of President; unfortunately for his record of legality, one of those duties is to see that the laws of the United States are faithfully executed; some of those laws refer to illegal immigrants, which President Obama has ordered the executive branch officers specifically not to enforce.. Everyone of those imperial presidents (not Ford and Carter) should have been impeached, but the Liberals would (and did, in Clinton s case) crucify anyone who suggested that the President was acting illegally, and was placing himself above the war.. Seriously, though, this should have never been published.. It should have been an internal matter.. It s none of anyone s business.. Worse yet, it s not being used for constructive discourse.. It s being politicized and used to demonize some college students who made a stupid mistake.. College students making mistakes.. now there s national news.. Posted by Brian on 03/02/2013.. Brian, you are sadly mistaken.. This was a hate crime against Christians.. Your response was pretty generic.. Lets just say that you are responding to an incident where a bunch of passionate hothead white college students made a stupid mistake by tearing down a display commemorating MLK.. You would, or course, still stand by your response.. right?.. Posted by jrclark on 03/02/2013.. Yes, these students were wrong for what they did and deserved to be disciplined by the school.. But publishing their names along with inflammatory language exposes them to undue danger.. To all of you saying, They get everything they deserve! Actions have consequences! : Let s imagine these were your kids (or younger siblings, or you) who, let s say, were upset by pro-life posters on campus and tore them down or wrote MURDER across them with a Sharpie.. I m sure you d want them to know that that was a bad decision and that they need to learn to express disagreement appropriately and with respect toward others right to express their opinions.. You might even be OK with the school imposing some kind of punishment.. But how would you feel when the group responsible for the posters posted a blog with your child s full name and university, adding exaggerated claims that Conservative Christians are oppressing, bullying and silencing women! They hate free speech! How would you feel when, as a result of that public information, angry commenters on that blog posted links to your child s Facebook page with your child s contact information and photos? How would you feel when your child started receiving harassing and threatening e-mails and phone calls from anonymous strangers who irrationally think your child is out to destroy women s rights or free speech? Cursing them out? Stalking them? Threatening, in graphic detail, to assault, rape or kill your child? At what point would you decide that the person who published your child s name was reckless and malicious in doing so? That the constant stream of insults and threats your child is receiving, and his or her increasing fear and depression, are disproportionate compared to your child s disrespectful but relatively minor act of poor judgment? I m willing to bet these things are already happening to these students.. It always happens when someone is vilified on the internet and it goes viral, no matter what side of a controversy or end of the political spectrum they fall on.. 19-year-old college students should not have to face that.. Del Campo has every right to be angry about what happened to his display, and perhaps also with the school s response if no action was taken against the students who took it down.. But he should know full well that posting it would invite internet trolls and crazies to harass and threaten and potentially even do harm to his fellow students.. He could ve invited people--without naming names--to write to the dean to express their disappointment that his group s were not taken more seriously.. Or hosted a forum on campus to discuss the issue and how to ensure that all student groups are able to express their opinions and support causes and have civil debate.. So just because the pro-life group started it doesn t mean that Del Campo s reaction was OK.. It wasn t.. At all.. Two wrongs don t make a right, remember?.. Posted by Wait a minute on 03/03/2013.. Frequently, private or ivy league colleges find themselves to be serving as the babysitters of spoiled, or sometimes mentally ill children of wealthy individuals, or diplomats.. These institutions attempt to keep the misdeeds of their wards hushed up as a service to the parents, who might return the favor with contributions to the institution well in excess of the tuition dollars.. This might have been the intention of De Paul University to protect their income stream.. With the internet, and cameras everywhere, it is much more difficult to keep a lid on such things.. The administrators of De Paul as well as their benefactors, need to understand that criminal activities cannot be expected to be shrouded in secret anymore, and that they cannot guarantee such complete protection to some of these children they are babysitting.. The situation of De Paul University, which finds itself punishing the victims instead of the criminals, results from a failure to connect with today s reality, and it is likely to hurt their income stream more than the loss of 13 spoiled brats involved in the vandalism.. Posted by Pharmer1 on 03/03/2013.. The issue is not choice nor is it pro-life! The issues are two-fold: 1.. They hurt other people s property and had no business doing it! Get over the soft sell of slapping their hands.. They KNEW what they were doing was wrong and did it anyway.. They ve had their hands slapped before and look - it did no good.. They re up to their old antics, only this time the victims are pressing for REAL punishment.. Sooner now than later, when it could really be something much bigger than this episode!!.. Posted by KatieOh on 04/01/2013.. If you commit a crime and get arrested, it is published in the newspaper.. If you confess to your crime, that will also be published.. If you are a student then you want protection from the same rules that govern the first amendment.. There were no lies told, the facts were presented as the investigator told them.. Because you are students you should have no greater rights that anyone else, unless you can prove you are better than anyone else.. Publishing on the internet has the same rule of law that the news media enjoy s.. Its time to man up.. One day you will leave school and you will not be treated any better than anyone else, so get use to it now.. Posted by Smalley50 on 05/16/2013.. Descriptive info: The Virtuous President: Remembering Ronald Reagan On His Birthday.. 2/5/2013 3:22:09 PM.. Posted by Stephen Smoot.. Typically, history credits an individual with greatness once that person has achieved a height only surmounted by a few.. The achievement alone, sometimes despite unworthiness elsewhere in his or her character,.. defines the person’s claim to greatness.. One also finds greatness in a worthy soul.. Those around this person benefit from the optimistic energy brought to problem solving, the inspiration from one whose natural inclination is to support, and the simple kindness of a gentle human being.. The strength of character of such individuals inevitably pushes them to the top of their chosen endeavors.. Such men and women, the classical Greeks and Romans called “virtuous,” a designation of true honor.. On Wednesday, America and Young America’s Foundation honor the birthday of a man who would have found greatness in any calling, but happened to follow one of his country’s highest.. We celebrate the life of President Ronald Reagan.. Friends and foes alike credited Reagan for allowing his character and values to serve as the foundation for everything else, whether they agreed or disagreed with the direction of his ideas.. They started with the consistent practice of treating every individual with respect and dignity.. Reagan speechwriter and columnist Peggy Noonan related a story to author James Strock about the president’s basic humanity.. An elderly Californian once misinterpreted a fundraising letter to be a personal invitation to meet Reagan.. She embarked on a cross-country trip to meet him, only to be naturally rebuffed at the gates of the White House.. Staff members, knowing the president’s nature, alerted him to her misunderstanding.. She was invited on an impromptu tour which ended with Reagan spending much of the afternoon in conversation with her.. George H.. W.. Bush recalled that the president never failed to amicably greet groundskeepers and other White House staff.. Reagan also had time to mentor the youth through his work with Young Americans for Freedom.. Cicero once wrote in a study of virtue “deny no one the water that flows by.. ” In this case, Reagan shared his  ...   Reagan in the 1980 election.. When called upon to dedicate the 1986 opening of the Carter Museum, Reagan gave a speech of such warmth that his predecessor admitted “I think I understand more clearly now than I had ever before why you won.. ” Part of Reagan’s success lay in never allowing politics to be personal, no matter what the nature of the attack.. ABC News White House correspondent Sam Donaldson remembered Reagan’s confidence and security.. Despite “sharp questions.. he was secure enough that it rolled off his back more than it rolled off other Presidents’ backs.. ” After one somewhat contentious interview with then candidate Reagan, CBS' Mike Wallace was invited to an amicable dinner with both Ronald and Nancy.. The often critical.. 60 Minutes.. correspondent summed Reagan up with “Fact is, seldom have I seen a politician so underestimated by the press.. Even his beloved Rancho Del Cielo reflected a character defined by what George Washington called "republican simplicity.. " His ranch home could fit over four times inside of Al Gore's grandiose Nashville mansion, but Reagan's house with its grounds are renowned for their simple beauty and tranquility.. It is the home of a leader like Rome's Cincinnatus, who when through with public life retired quietly to his farm.. All too often, many get captivated by incomplete greatness.. Some are inspired by a great personality that is otherwise hollowed out.. Others admire a figure of public accomplishment, but of malevolent personality.. Their public deeds are used to justify their private meanness of spirit.. Reagan, however, combines attributes of public achievement and private generosity, serving as a strong model of classical virtue.. Ronald Reagan was not a great man because he was a great president.. Ronald Reagan was a great president because he was a great man.. And even if he had never for a second aspired towards that high office, he still would have been a remarkable and a worthy American.. Stephen A.. Smoot is Director of Academic Programs for National Journalism Center, a project of Young America's Foundation.. Nicely done, Stephen.. I enjoyed reading.. Descriptive info: BUSTED: George Washington University Campus Newspaper Misrepresents the Pro-Life Movement.. 2/4/2013 9:58:38 AM.. By Katherine Rodriguez.. Journalistic integrity at the George Washington University campus took a nosedive last week when its paper of record,.. The Hatchet.. , blatantly downplayed pro-life youth participation in January's 2013 March for Life Rally in Washington, DC.. On January 25, hundreds of thousands of pro-life activists from all over the country convened on the National Mall to show their support for the repeal of Roe v.. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision which struck down many state laws restricting abortion.. Young people, many of whom were college students, arrived in droves to attend the rally.. The.. Washington Post.. reported that most attendees of the March ".. seemed to be teenagers and young adults.. " Christendom College in Front Royal, VA, for example, even cancelled classes so that.. 400 students could attend the March in Washington.. And their numbers are growing in the pro-life movement.. A recent Gallup poll showed that pro-choice Americans are at an all-time low of 41 percent, and among the 18 to 29 demographic, young people are more likely to be against abortion in any case.. Yet the photo splashed across the front page of.. did not represent the youthful crowd at Friday's rally.. published an image of a group of smiling, young, female pro-abortion counter-protesters alongside a clearly cherry-picked image depicting the pro-life side as frowning, older female marchers with a priest in his clerical collar looming over them.. The subtext is unmistakable.. Rosemary Holt, the co-president of the pro-life organization at GWU, Colonials for Life, expressed outrage at.. 's inaccurate representation of the March.. :.. "The.. GW Hatchet.. is not required to applaud the pro-life movement, but they should accurately represent events as they occurred,".. she wrote in an op-ed for the campus conservative publication,.. The GW Patriot.. The photo spread published by.. not only portrayed the counter-protesters more positively, but made it seem as though they played a more substantial role in the March than they in fact did.. "Hundreds of thousands of individuals marched against abortion Friday January 25th and only approximately 100 individuals counter-protested.. This fact was not accurately reported in the.. article.. This is not the only instance in the article in which..  ...   just fall into the territory of the liberal mainstream media; it starts in our college news outlets, where many of these university writers and editors are trained to think a certain way by the journalism professors that teach them.. If these writers learn in college that it is okay to slant news articles, they then go on to work for national outlets and the cycle continues.. Katherine Rodriguez is a Summer 2012 NJC alumnus and conservative activist at The George Washington University, where she is a junior.. She is also is an assistant producer for conservative radio show host Armstrong Williams, who broadcasts from 6-8pm on Sirius XM's The Power Channel 128.. Talk about journalistic integrity- the Gallup Poll is CRAP.. Any SMPA student should know this.. It relies on phone calls- specifically home phones- meaning that the population surveyed tends to be much older than the average population.. So yes, when you are surveying primarily older generations, they will be more conservative in general.. Regardless of what the actual percentage is, the author should have known better than to rely on the Gallup Poll.. Posted by haha on 02/05/2013.. pro-abortion Now there s some bias..
