[Iniciar sesión].. Global: Achieving Gender Equality.. Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP).. € 330,000.. The Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) has since 1995 documented changes in gender representation and portrayal in the world news media.. Implemented in 5-year cycles, the GMMP begins with research followed by actions to accelerate progress in the rate of change towards gender-fair, gender-balanced news.. The current (Fourth) cycle began in 2009 when thousands of volunteers from over 100 countries monitored their local media for selected indicators of gender bias, inequality and discrimination.. The research results published in ‘The Global Media Monitoring Project 2010 Report: Who makes the news?’ (WACC, 2010) found a slow but steady progress, however, women continue to be severely under-represented in the news.. Yet visibility and audibility in the news is crucial in order to influence national and local policy agendas.. Further, women continue to be depicted in stereotypical, sexist, prejudiced and biased ways, in turn contributing to societal worldviews that discriminate against and subordinate women.. In view of the GMMP research results and the need to bring media accountability to the struggle for gender equality, WACC and the GMMP network partners worldwide are implementing several constitutive projects at national, regional and global levels.. The work until December 2013 concentrates on five broad activity areas, namely:.. Advocacy for gender-responsive media and communication policies;.. • Title: Fiji: Creative Communications: Community Media for Gender Justice and Peace
Descriptive info: FemLINKPACIFIC: Media Initiatives for Women (FemLINK), Fiji.. € 19,320.. 1370.. At a time in the Fiji Islands where the Public Emergency Regulations remain intact, there is a need to demonstrate the role of community media as a viable platform for information and communication.. The project will produce content which will demonstrate community media as a valid and valued member of the media in the Pacific region.. FemLINK is a Fiji-based non profit media agency established in the year 2000 to bridge the information divide between rural and urban women and national and regional policy makers in Fiji and the broader Pacific region.. • Title: New resources for gender aware journalism
Descriptive info: New resources for gender aware journalism.. Lunes 20 de Agosto de 2012 15:05.. Gender aware journalism: a more ethical perspective.. By Maria Teresa Aveggio, Programme Manager.. “The fact that students of Communication will have the possibility of discussing themes such as the importance of non-sexist language in the media is an important step since it opens new horizons and ways of understanding journalism”.. With these words WACC’s general Secretary, Rev Dr Karin Achetelstetter expressed her reaction to the news that the School of Communication of the National University of Entre Ríos has invited Argentina’s Network of Journalists for a Non Sexist Communication (Red PAR) to organise a six-month seminar on Subjective Construction of Gender in the Media.. The Seminar carries academic credit for the students and will include topics such as communication, gender and subjectivity, re-thinking language: the importance of non-sexist language in the media, and gender violence and the media.. Red PAR was created some six years ago and brings together 188 Argentinean professional journalists who work with a gender perspective throughout the country.. WACC played a role in the formation of the network and Dafne Sabanes Plou and Claudia Florentin, two WACC members and leaders of the WACC-Latin American Regional Association, were key figures in the creation of the work.. The current WACC Global president Dr Dennis Smith was also among those who supported the creation of Red PAR.. The network organises national annual encounters with the next one taking place in the city of Mar del Plata from 14  ...   medios analysing the portrayal of female politicians in press, audio-visual, radio and digital media.. The documentary was screened at public debates with communicators from national media across Argentina.. Proposals emerging from the debates included the imperative for journalists to also seek the opinion of women experts for stories related to politics and economic issues, to address sexist language and to professionalise in-house codes of practice from a gender perspective.. The manual was released during a public event organised by the local legislative body in Mar del Plata on 7 June 2012, the day of journalists in Argentina.. Presenting the manual Marcela Gabioud, current member of WACC-Latin America’s Regional Association, indicated that taking into account the results of the last Gender Media Monitoring (GMMP.. or.. g ) undertaken by WACC and its global network, it became “clear that there were no resources in schools of journalism to work with a gender perspective.. Therefore this proposal aimed at providing a tool not only to those already working in the media but also to those who are training to work in it”.. Ms Gabioud, a member of Red-PAR sees journalism with a gender perspective as a more ethical and responsible practice.. The manual, in Spanish, can be downloaded.. here.. At global level, in October 2012 WACC is planning to launch a Learning Resource Kit for Gender-Ethical Journalism and Media House Policy prepared in collaboration with the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).. This is yet another contribution on the part of WACC to non-sexist journalism everywhere..
