Wallenberg Academy Fellows is a carreer programme that provides long-term funding for the most promising young researchers of all disciplines to develop their projects.. The programme was initiated by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation in close collaboration with five royal academies and sixteen universities.. ‘According to its statutes the Foundation should act to benefit Sweden, and since the future lies in the hands of the next generation of researchers, what better way to do so than to support that next generation?’ asks Peter Wallenberg Jr, Vice-chairman of the Foundation.. Long-term funding.. The purpose of the new career programme and the long-term funding is to give the most promising young researchers a work situation that enables them to focus on their projects and address difficult research questions over an extended period of time.. ‘Taking the long view is essential, especially when it comes to basic research,’ says Staffan Normark, Permanent Secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.. At least 40% of the nominees should be professionally active outside of the nominating university at the time of nomination.. On 1 March at the latest, the nominations are sent to evaluation groups with members from the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities and the Swedish Academy.. The evaluation groups present the most promising candidates to the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, which will select 25 researchers in November.. Who is eligible?.. The programme is open to both Swedish and foreign researchers from all  ...   that date and who since have been absent for an extended period of time due to illness or parental leave, may have the date adjusted by the duration of said absence.. Employment.. Upon filing a nomination, the university undertakes to employ the researcher in question in case of selection.. Furthermore, the university guarantees that the researcher will be given a relevant position at the host institution.. It will co-finance the initiative by assuring that no more than a maximum of 50% of the researcher's salary is covered by the grant..
