Creation of our preschool and early learning program.. Use of technology to advance instruction, communications, and interaction with other programs.. Development of Outreach support to public schools serving deaf students.. Initiation of sister-school agreement with the school for the deaf in Italy.. Construction planning for new dormitories and academic building (to be completed in 2013).. , was born in Shreveport, LA in 1942 to deaf parents.. He was taught at the Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge from 1947 to 1958.. He received his B.. A.. degree in Psychology from Gallaudet University in 1963.. ;.. M.. in Educatio.. n,.. Administration and Supervision from California State University at Northridge in 1971.. and Ph.. D.. degree in Special Education Administration from Gallaudet University in 1979.. Corbett started his professional career as a teacher at the Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge where he taught Graphic Arts for six years; after that, he taught academic subjects for three years to junior high school students.. Then he was responsible for the development of a communications and community education concept involving deaf and hard-of-hearing people throughout the State of Delaware and the implementation of a mainstreaming concept utilizing sign language interpreters/tutors to help facilitate the communication process for hearing and deaf/hard-of-hearing students attending elementary and secondary school programs in the Newark School District (now Christiana District) in Newark, DE.. After two years’ stint in Delaware, Dr.. Corbett served  ...   missed by students, staff, friends, and colleagues for his wisdom, sense of humor, and commitment to all deaf and hard of hearing students and their achievement.. The Ohio School for the Deaf will plan a memorial service later this year and will announce details when planning is complete.. Corbett’s family has requested that any donations be made payable to the.. Ohio School for the Deaf, (.. Playground Fund.. written on the memo line).. , and sent to the Ohio School for the Deaf (c/o Bobbie Huebner, Administrative Assistant), 500 Morse Road, Columbus, Ohio 43214.. A letter acknowledging each donation will be sent to the donor.. with a copy to the Corbett family.. During.. OSD’s Homecoming weekend, there will be a memorial service for OSD’s former superintendent, Dr.. , on:.. Saturday, February 2, 2013 in the OSD gymnasium.. Doors will open at 9:30 AM with the program starting promptly at 10:30 AM.. The program will last about one hour.. The memorial service is open to the public using the bleacher seating area and a limited number of chairs on the gym floor.. Due to fire code restrictions, seating may be limited.. If there is an overflow crowd, the recreation lounge will be available for close circuit television broadcast of the memorial service.. The recreation lounge will also be open for an hour after the memorial service for refreshments and for any person who wants to video record a message to Dr.. Corbett’s family.. We hope that parents, students, and the community are able to join us for the memorial service.. The first Homecoming game will start at 6 PM on February 2, 2013.. /Corbett..
