  • Title: Funding Priorities/Grant Program
Descriptive info: HOME.. xxxxxxxxxx.. xxx.. xxxx.. New Jersey Foundation for Aging.. Community Grant.. NJFA Announces 2012 Grantees.. 2012 RFP for Community Grant Program.. (click here for details).. About the New Jersey Foundation for Aging.. The mission of the New Jersey Foundation for Aging works to improve and expand new and innovative approaches to the delivery of services that enable older adults to live in the community with independence and dignity through grantmaking and increasing society s awareness to influence public policy.. The New Jersey Foundation for Aging was founded in 1998 to improve the quality of life of New Jersey s older residents.. This is achieved through four objectives:.. ¨.. To support the creation and enhancement of innovative services in.. New Jersey through fundraising, grantmaking and convening.. public-private partnerships.. To conduct public policy forums and research around issues relating to aging and educate key stakeholders and decision makers on recommendations for change.. To educate professionals throughout the state on the latest issues and best.. practices in providing services and engaging older persons.. To enhance public awareness of aging issues and ways to age well in New Jersey.. This commitment supports the older persons of today and envisions ways to assist and engage the baby boomers that are tomorrow s seniors.. The Foundation is a nongovernmental 501.. c.. 3 nonprofit that derives its support for programs and operations from single donors, public and private foundations and corporate support.. Financial contributions from all levels are highly valued.. The Community Grant Program.. The Community Grant Program began in the year 2000 and over its history has provided 32 grants to programs throughout the state of New Jersey.. Non-profit organizations in local communities are invited to participate in the grant application process which is an open, competitive process.. The Community Grant Program provides support to programs which are considered innovative in meeting the needs of older persons or inspiring older person in local communities.. Innovation is defined as a new program or new growth of an existing program.. Examples may include a new service.. designed to address an existing issue, a new model of delivering services, or a new intervention for a newly identified problem.. Here the definition is broad as innovation in one community of New Jersey may differ from another community.. A challenge match is required and described in the outline for proposal located below.. The match is intended to encourage applicants to connect with the public and private sectors of local communities and to encourage sustainability of funded initiatives.. Letters of commitment of challenge funding or of intent to fund are requested.. Applicants  ...   of all ages living in the community.. Please click on link at top of page for application information.. 2009 Grant Awards (2010 Grantees).. Camden City Garden Club.. NJFA grant award to the Camden City Garden Club will help raise awareness about food insecurity among the aging population in New Jersey.. Many residents in urban areas have little or no access to affordable, healthy food options.. These urban areas also often have many vacant lots.. NJFA hopes that by supporting the outreach efforts of the Camden City Garden Club some of these issues can be alleviated.. The Camden City Garden Club will help seniors in the community to create gardens throughout the city of Camden, as well as educate them about growing and preparing healthy foods.. Access to affordable and healthy food is key to aging well.. Greater Mercer TMA Travel Instruction.. The program at Greater Mercer TMA will provide training to seniors that will allow them to access public transportation.. Transportation is a vital resource for older adults living in the community.. Without access to transportation, seniors are unable to make medical appointments or maintain contact with the community, leading to poor health and isolation.. In addition to getting to medical appointments, seniors often also need access to transportation for grocery shopping and social interaction.. Through Travel Training, which will instruct seniors how to use public transportation, NJFA and Greater Mercer TMA hope to make a difference for seniors who find themselves without transportation.. NJFA is proud to support a program that will be so beneficial to the senior population of Mercer County.. 2008 Grant Awards (2009 Grantees).. Total Grant Monies Awarded: $9,000.. Paterson YMCA s Active Adult Fitness Program.. (.. $7,500).. The grant monies will be used for continuing funding of the Active Adult Fitness Program.. The Active Adult Fitness Program reaches out to seniors, and provides them with the opportunity to exercise without having to leave their public housing development.. Active Adult Fitness Program offers weekly fitness, training and nutritional classes to seniors.. Intergenerational Orchestra of NJ.. ($1, 500).. NJIO s outreach project, its.. OUTREACH STRING CHAMBER ENSEMBLE.. brings comfort and.. enjoyment, for players and audiences alike, through free performances at nursing homes and elder daycares, senior citizens residences and clubs, handicapped care centers, elementary schools, civic events, and public libraries.. The..
