La Crosse County Web Site.. 51,320 City of La Crosse residents served by the La Crosse Public Library.. 63,318 Out-County residents served by the five branches of the La Crosse County Library.. Each County library location is housed in a building provided, furnished and maintained by the municipality in which it is located.. The County is responsible for the books and other media contained in each library, the processing of the materials and the personnel to provide the services.. The Administrative Center.. for the County Library is housed in the Holmen building.. 1500 square feet provides office space and workspace for the Library Director, a Secretary, a Main Library Assistant, a Cataloger, Youth Services Coordinator and two Library Pages.. All new books and other media are received and processed in this location before they are sent out to the branches ready for public use.. The John Bosshard Memorial Library.. in Bangor was built in 1991 to replace a smaller location in the Village Hall.. The present building has 2400 square feet of space.. A Library Assistant, one Library Clerk and a Library Page are employed at the Bangor Library.. The Campbell Branch Library.. is located in the Campbell Town Hall, which is on French Island.. In 1975 the Library was moved into the Town Hall and has been enlarged to its present size of 810 square feet.. It is staffed by a Library Assistant.. Town of Campbell Web Site.. The Holmen Area Library.. is housed in a former grocery store in downtown Holmen.. This building was renovated in 1988 to accommodate the Library which was moved from it's former location in the Village Hall.. The public library portion of the building has 4500 square feet of space.. The Holmen Library staff includes a Branch Supervisor, three Library Clerks, a Reference Librarian one part-time Assistant Youth Services Librarian and three Library Pages.. The La Crosse County Library had an operating budget of $1,733,964 in the year 2012 with the La Crosse County library levy at $1,641,147.. The balance of operating income came from a combination of our used book sales, fees and fines paid by patrons; a grant from Winding Rivers Library System; donations; and revenue from copies and printing.. Any Wisconsin resident or Wisconsin property owner may apply for a free library card.. This card entitles him/her to check out materials, place holds, access the Internet and make use of other services.. The card is valid indefinitely and may be used at any Wisconsin library.. Even if you already have a card from your local Wisconsin library, we will issue you one from ours so we will have you in our system.. Out-of-State residents may obtain a card for a fee based on the length of time they wish to use the card.. Regardless of residence, anyone may use the materials.. in the library.. without fee and may take advantage of our trained staff members as a resource to find materials or information.. To apply for a library card a proof of current address is required.. We will accept the following if they have your current address:.. Driver's license.. School ID.. Fishing license.. Bills for services at current address.. Checkbook.. State ID.. Medical Assistance card.. Lease or rental agreement for current address.. Passport.. YMCA card.. Green Card (alien residency card).. Mail with recent postmark sent to current address.. What can I check out?.. All Branch Library collections contain a variety of the following:.. Books.. Fines of over five dollars must be paid before items may be renewed, additional materials may be checked out, or the Internet used.. Once Iluminar has loaded you will see on the left side of the screen, a Select your library box, make sure La Crosse County Library is selected.. Enter your library barcode number (no spaces).. Enter your PIN number (usually the last 4 digits of your telephone number).. Click login.. Near the top of the screen, just below Welcome [.. your name.. ] , click on My account.. Under My Profile click on Items out.. On the page listing the items checked out to you, those which can be renewed say Renew in blue letters in the right hand column.. Simply click on the word Renew for each item you wish to renew.. If the word Renew does not appear in that right hand column, then the item cannot be renewed.. Of course we will still be glad to renew via phone or email.. Please call if you have any questions.. How do I request materials and how do I find out when they come in?.. Requested materials are frequently referred to as Holds.. At the top of the right hand side of the screen is the search box.. Once you find the item you are seeking use the Reserve this Item link to place your request.. Be sure to verify the pick-up location of your choice.. When the item is available, you will be notified by e-mail, telephone or postal mail dependent on your preference.. Please inform a Library Staff member if you would like to change your notification method.. Of course we will still be glad to place your requests via phone or email.. How do I manage my requests so they don't all come to me at once, or if I go on vacation?.. Unfortunately, at this time there is no automated mechanism to manage requests.. Requests not picked up in 7 days will expire..
