View all the blogs.. Kinga Lakatos.. Country:.. Hungary.. Where in the USA:.. UC Davis Health System, Stem Cell Program.. Last Seen:.. I consider myself a very curious person.. The eagerness to know all the things possible, has led me to medical school, where I was introduced to the greatest secrets of all: the human life.. When I started my clinical practice, I realized that meeting ill people, establishing a sympathetic relationship with them has become my passion.. Read Bio.. Being a part of the healing process and helping patients, to reach their physical and mental well-being, is the best job I can ever dream of.. Before starting my everyday clinical practice, I wanted to further evaluate the depths of cell biology.. So after graduating from Semmelweis University, I decided to go for PhD.. In western civilizations, the leading cause of mortality is cardiovascular disease.. This could be cured by repairing or replacing the impaired tissue by stem cells.. After two years of mesenchymal stem cell research, I felt that I needed to further advance myself in my profession and learn new techniques.. And that, I felt, could be done by spending some time in a prestigious US laboratory.. This was when I found out about HAESF and learned about this great opportunity.. I was offered an internship at the UC Davis School of Medicine Stem Cell Laboratory in Sacramento, California.. My future professors were really kind and welcoming.. I look forward to being a part of a great research team and feel the atmosphere of high-end science.. We will work on bringing scientific results closer to clinical practice and applicability.. Read Kinga's Blog.. Krisztina Nascso.. New York @ The Hungarian Human Rights Foundation.. I like to think of myself as an open-minded, ambitious and socially sensitive person who is eager to make a change in this world.. Currently, I am a final year law student at Eötvös Lóránd University in Budapest and I also complemented my studies in Luxembourg as an exchange student; therefore, I have a wide range of interests, and a quite diverse professional background.. After winning a prominent international scholarship at an early age, I decided to do something in my life that matters.. I have always been interested in constitutional law and human rights, so I paid a great deal of attention to minority rights during my university studies.. In my opinion, we need to enable all minority communities to claim their rightful place in society.. Besides improving the legal environment, it is also essential to support the work of non-governmental organizations as they have played a primary role in focusing the attention of the international community on human rights issues.. My aim is to make NGOs more popular and effective in Central and Eastern Europe and I would also like to contribute to the legislation of the European Union concerning minority rights.. The HAESF program provides me with a great opportunity to further my professional skills and to discover my hidden abilities.. I am looking forward to learning and challenging myself!.. Read Krisztina's Blog.. Anett Soti.. Boston Consulting Group, NY City.. Curiosity, people and desire for new knowledge are my three inner drivers in my life.. I have always been passionate about communities, organizations and brands since I was a kid, and I want to do something for them as my career.. I can easily take the lead and facilitate things, yet I am also a team worker.. People give me energy.. Different cultures and nations give me the inspiration.. I have a strong passion for strategic project management with impactful purposes and goals.. I follow in my everyday life the advice of Mahatma Gandhi: „You must be the change you want to see in the world”.. I spent one year of high school and earned my B.. A.. studies in Germany.. I attended the International Summer School (ISS) in 2011 in Norway.. I was granted with the Oslo Vest Rotary’s “Young Friends” Scholarship.. I was educated in peace and conflict management at the Norwegian Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue.. I took part in several Youth in Action (YiA) training programs and was member of the National Working Group on Structured Dialogue in Hungary (instrument of the new European Union Youth Field Cooperation Framework 2010-2018).. I am now pursuing a Communication Master’s degree with an emphasis on Cultural Industries and Strategic Communications Planning, and I already  ...   doubt that I have to be an engineer.. I feel lucky because University of Pannonia gave me the chance to meet with great people and to be part of a professionally and socially active group.. Besides the numerous student competitions, I also took part in organizing university events and dance performances at the University.. In my Bachelor’s thesis I had the pleasure of taking part in a development project at Continental Teves Ltd.. There, I learnt that I still have a lot to learn, but that if I try hard enough nothing is impossible.. Now, as I graduated with a Master’s degree in Mechatronical Engineering, I would like to work in the development of alternative energies.. In my opinion, alternative energy is not only for protecting the environment, but it is a logical and required decision in the long run.. As energy is the most important base of our world, the development of alternative energy is similarly important.. Since there is no place where I could learn more about this field than in the centre of technical development , United States, the Professional Internship Program of HAESF gives me a great chance to get closer to my goal.. Read Balazs's Blog.. Zoltan Szekely-Madai.. Hungarian Human Rights Foundation, New York.. I was born in Budapest and I grew up in a family of teachers.. My mother is a high school mathematics and physics teacher, and both my father and my older brother are history teachers.. My graduation thesis reviewed and assessed the political representation of Hungarians living in Slovakia between 1989 and 2009.. During the research and preparation of my thesis, I became very passionate about this topic.. Since then, I have closely followed the political, economic and social developments concerning Hungarian communities in neighboring countries.. After receiving my college degree, I decided to carry on the 'family business' and I applied for a pedagogy course.. Currently, I am enrolled at Eötvös Loránd University, where I am working towards a degree in history and multicultural studies education.. After receiving my pedagogy degree, I plan to build a career that combines my passions for teaching and advocacy, as well as for studying and advancing the social and political representation of Hungarian minorities living abroad.. My participation in the HAESF program allows me to further the development of my own career by providing invaluable expertise and experience.. Read Zoltan's Blog.. Eva Wisniewski.. Washington, D.. C.. at National Institutes of Health.. Ever since I can remember, I have always been the type of person interested in the biological aspect of our lives.. Based on my curiosity, eagerness to learn and my perfectionist personality, there was no question that I would like to attend medical university.. Now as a freshly graduated medical doctor, I am truly amazed with my field of study, because being able to restore human health is priceless.. However, I consider the investigation of the molecular basis of health and disease to be exceptionally important as well.. During my studies at Semmelweis University in Budapest, I was working at the Department of Physiology as a research student for four years, investigating the role and regulation of a leukocyte-specific protein during phagocytosis.. These years expanded my knowledge of a diverse and rapidly advancing field and captured my scientific curiosity, leading me to participate in a Ph.. D.. program (Cellular and Molecular Physiology) afterwards.. Beyond my research activity, I also participated in the physiology education of second year German students, and was a mentor of the Erasmus Student Network.. Living in a small country like Hungary, command of foreign languages is incredibly important for me, allowing me to participate in international collaborations and to understand scientific articles.. After spending a semester in Germany and attending several international conferences, I understood that enhancing and understanding of a language is best achieved in immersing yourself within the surrounding culture.. In addition, valuable friendships and professional networking opportunities gained abroad make future collaborations considerably easier and, importantly, more fun.. Having the privilege to participate in the Professional Internship Program of HAESF, I feel lucky and motivated.. Spending a year in one of the most prominent research institutes of the United States and working with open-minded, talented people, would be certainly challenging but undoubtedly a lifelong experience.. It also would allow me to become acquainted with new methods and improve my professional self-reliance.. Later on, I aim to work at the interface of experimental basic science and clinical medicine thus helping to develop new and personalized medicines.. Read Eva's Blog.. Graduate Scholarship.. • Title: The Hungarian American Enterprise Scholarship Fund
Descriptive info: The Hungarian-American Enterprise Scholarship Fund's (HAESF) objective is to promote free enterprise and development in Hungary and to continue strengthening ties between the United States and Hungary by creating opportunities for accomplished Hungarians and those of great promise to gain professional experience in the United States.. HAESF's roots trace back to 1989 with the creation of the Hungarian-American Enterprise Fund (HAEF).. In 1989, amidst the continuous disintegration of Communism, the United States Congress enacted the Support of Eastern European Democracy Act (SEED), which authorized the creation of enterprise funds to assist the development of private market economy in Central and Eastern Europe.. Between 1989 and 1994, the U.. Congress, through The U.. Agency for International Development (USAID), appropriated a total of $1.. 3 billion to establish ten new investment funds known collectively as the Enterprise Funds, throughout Central and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union.. From the beginning, USAID structured the Enterprise Funds to be guided by independent Boards of Directors selected from the upper tiers of the U.. private sector, who in turn selected the Fund's day-to-day operating management.. HAEF, established through a grant of $72.. 5 million as one of the original Enterprise Funds,  ...   Hungarian companies and took an active role in assisting them with strategic and financial planning, training, and identifying strategic partners.. In most cases, HAEF invested in companies where operating management participated in the profits and/or ownership of the business.. By the successful and efficient use of its resources during the 15 years of active investment operations HAEF was able to make a significant long-term impact, in line with its original goals of promoting free enterprise in Hungary.. The Fund was also able to realize financial success from many of their investments, so that there was a substantial remaining pool of capital available at the end of its active investment period.. With this pool of available capital in mind the Fund created a new vision to further the HAEF mission.. HAEF began the process of liquidating its portfolio investments with the intention of returning half of the funds to the U.. Treasury and creating a scholarship fund - this time as an independent not-for-profit organization - with the other half.. It established HAESF as a major legacy fellowship program to further improve the economic development in Hungary by providing accomplished Hungarians with professional training opportunities in the U..
