    Descriptive info: Boys Girls Club of the Hawkins County provides services in the following five core program areas: Character Leadership Development, Education Career Development, Health Life Skills, the Arts, and Sports, Fitness Recreation and all around Fun!.. Character Leadership Development.. Gamesroom (Social Recreation) ~.. The Gamesroom (while grammatically incorrect) is the heart soul of the Club, and where most Club members spend the majority of their day.. The Gamesroom includes carpet pool, pool tables, air hockey, foosball, vending machines, the locker room and the front desk where members sign in and out for the day and sign up for activities and upcoming tournaments and games.. With so much going on in one room it would be hard to imagine that this is where some of the most valuable lessons in the Club are taught.. Activities in the Gamesroom focus on following the rules, working together and showing good sportsmanship.. Informal lessons are taught every minute of everyday.. Our Youth Development Professionals work hard to make sure that every child understands it is their responsibility to care for the Club and the people in it.. The Gamesroom is used as a stepping stone to other areas of the Club where a child s confidence will continue to blossom with further instruction.. Torch Club ~.. Torch Club is a community service group that emphasizes civic responsibility and leadership in the Club, school and community.. Weekly meetings are held to discuss Club events and issues and give members a chance to offer feedback.. Participation in community service projects such as the Power Lake Cleanup is expected of each Torch Club member.. Torch Club is offered during the school year as well as during the summer to members between the ages of 10 and 14.. If you would like more information on how your child can sign up for Torch Club, please contact John Burleson.. Education Career Development.. Power Hour ~.. Power Hour is an after school homework help and tutoring session that emphasizes excellence in the classroom and homework completion.. The program is offered Monday through Thursday from 3pm until 5pm, and Friday from 3pm until 4pm, however time is often extended to encourage Club members to finish their work.. In addition to homework help, Power Hour instructs members on how to prepare homework in a neat and orderly fashion, and stresses organization and time management as keys to getting a leg up in the classroom.. Power Hour also offers fun and exciting educational games  ...   please contact John Burleson.. Health Life Skills.. Technology Center ~.. Our technology center features 10 computers with internet access and fun, age appropriate games.. The center is also used by members for research in school projects, homework assignments and our Computer Club.. Sign-ups for the Technology Center take place every 30 minutes and members must present their Boys Girls Club card to attend.. Cooking Club ~.. Cooking Club was developed as a way to instruct Club members on how to prepare and cook meals and snacks by following directions carefully.. Preparing heart healthy meals encourages members to try new foods and pursue a healthier lifestyle.. Cooking Club is offered during the summer and some holiday schedules.. Sewing Club is a fun group that teaches Club members the basics of sewing.. The Club meets during the summer and works toward completing individual and group projects.. Sewing Club activities encourage team work and respect amongst peers.. Sports, Fitness Recreation.. Triple Play ~.. Triple Play is a holistic approach to overall health and wellness for Club members.. The 3 pillars of Triple Play are Mind, Body and Soul and each of them demonstrate how eating right, keeping fit and forming positive relationships add up to a healthy lifestyle.. The goal of the Triple Play program is to improve Club members knowledge of healthy habits; increase the number of hours per day they participate in physical activities; and strengthen their ability to interact positively with others and engage in positive relationships..
