This major event, held under the patronage of His Excellency François Delattre, Ambassador of France to the United States, was devoted to the transatlantic relations after the election of Francois Holllande and the reelection of Barack Obama.. Many roundtables were open to the public.. The debate involving international personalities took place at the symposium's closing night and was followed by a reception..     Descriptive info: Symposium 2012.. Romuald Sciora.. Founder and Director.. Born in Paris in 1970, Romuald Sciora is viewed as "one of the most brilliant representatives of the new generaion of intellectuals committed to the world stage" and as one of the most knowledgeable specialists on the United Nations.. As a writer, he has co-published two books with the United Nations, including one with a foreword by French President Jacques Chirac.. These books benefited from the participation of various intellectuals from different backgrounds such as Noam Chomsky, Joseph Stiglitz, and Schlesinger.. Sciora has also written a book about the Middle East along with two plays.. As a filmmaker, he has produced more than a dozen political documentaries including a TV series devoted to the United Nations and broadcast in more than 20 countries.. He is the only one to have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with for a work of this kind all the UN Secretaries-General, from Kurt Waldheim to Ban Ki-moon.. He also edited a special issue of the French monthly Le Monde diplomatique devoted to the UN and gave numerous conferences on the subject at Columbia University, the United Nations Headquarters, and UNESCO among others..     Descriptive info: SEASON 2011 - 2012.. On November 29, 2011 the Maison Francaise at the French Embassy hosted the launch of the first edition of the French American Global Forum.. This 2011-2012 edition was dedicated to the G20 and global governance.. The event (which was a great success, leaving more than 200 people off the guest list due to a lack of space) was introduced by both the Ambassador of France to the United States, Francois Delattre, and Romuald Sciora, founder and director of the FAGF.. The debate that followed was moderated by James Traub of the New York Times Magazine.. Speakers included Jean-David Levitte, Diplomatic Advisor to French President Nicolas Sarkozy; Lawrence Summers, former American Secretary of the Treasury and Economic Advisor to President Barack Obama; Kemal Dervis, former Turkish Minister of State for Economic Affairs and former head of the United Nations Development Programme; and Anne-Marie Slaughter, who was one of the primary advisors to Hillary Clinton and was recently recognized as one of the Top 100 Global Thinkers of 2011 by Foreign Policy magazine.. Today’s event marks the launch of the “French-American Global Forum”, whose mission is to bring together academics and experts from our two countries and beyond to hold regular and quite  ...   two countries fight together in the mountains of Afghanistan – and until a few weeks ago in the skies over Libya, where we prevailed against Kadhafi and his affiliates and put an end to 42 years of dictatorship.. Our 2 countries are each other’s closest ally in the fight against terrorism.. We have taken the lead to combat the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear-weapons state in particular.. We are in the forefront of international efforts to support the democratic’s movements in the Arab world.. And we are working very closely together, under the French chairmanship of the G8 and the G20, to bring a coordinated response to the economic crisis in association with the emerging powers in order to restore confidence and to promote financial stability as well as economic growth.. And let’s never forget, as we open this new forum, that the values that we share, the values of freedom and democracy coming from the French and American revolutions, are what makes our relationship truly unique..
