Descriptive info: Search for:.. History of Friendship Ambassadors Foundation, Inc.. Founded by Fulbright Scholar Harry Morgan and well-respected travel professional Cappy Devlin, Friendship Ambassadors Foundation, Inc.. (FAF) has facilitated international travel and exchange programs as an independent foundation since 1973 and for more than 15 years prior to that as an informal program supported in large part by Lila and DeWitt Wallace (founders, Readers Digest).. Since its inception, FAF has cultivated international affiliations and representation in order to fulfill its mission to promote Youth Leadership capacity-building opportunities and Peace Through Cultural Exchange.. Since 1993, the organization has been led under the consistent direction of Patrick Sciarratta as Executive Director.. FAF pioneered cultural exchange with American arts ensembles: in 1984, we prepared the first American performance exchange with China, and during the Cold War, we worked to open channels of communication between the United States (US) and the so-called Communist Block.. In the 1990 s, the Foundation was in the forefront of youth reconciliation efforts during the Balkan Wars.. The Balkan Youth Reconciliation Seminar Series was designated a Flagship Project of UNESCO s International Year for the Culture of Peace.. FAF is currently a Partner in Operational Relations with UNESCO, and formally associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information.. FAF s respect as a trainer for youth leaders interested in capacity-building, service, and international affairs is garnered through the work of its director, Patrick Sciarratta.. Patrick is on faculty at Purchase College (SUNY) and regularly invited to address youth leadership issues worldwide.. In 2011, he was invited by King Mohammed VI to  ...   regions emerging from natural or man-made disasters and received national recognition for its work with 9/11 families in particular.. In 2002, our project, Finding New Hope, received $3.. 1M from American Red Cross, Hitachi, and Rotary International, and included signature funding of over $1.. 6M from the Lions Clubs International Foundation.. FAF Programs Include: Arts-based service programming in New Orleans (FAF and local Fairfield youth received two days named in their honor for public service by New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, with special commendation by the US Senate); the creation of the Greenwich/Vienne, Sister City relationship (where hundreds of Fairfield residents have been able to travel to and host sister city members); the annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations ; Youth Symphony for United Nations; and Youth Band for United Nations (led for several years by Greenwich High School music teacher John Yoon and comprised of Fairfield youth).. FAF is also proud of its many formal affiliations with a long list of non-governmental organizations, placing the Foundation in a unique position as it pursues its mission.. FAF programs have included many well-known participants throughout the past four decades, including United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, author Alex Haley, Mother Teresa, Senator Jay Rockefeller, President Vaclav Havel, three American astronauts, Reverend Jesse Jackson, social entrepreneur Kathy Ireland, Dr.. Arun Gandhi the list goes on and on.. However, the Foundation is most proud of the tens of thousands of private citizens and the millions of lives that have been touched and changed by the participation, engagement, and exchange our public projects engender..

Balkan Youth Reconciliation Seminars.. Festival of Light.. Bulgaria contains tremendous potential for building sustainable cultural tourism products that are competitive on the international tourism market.. Yet through our experiences we have witnessed barriers that prevent many of the organizations working in this sector from achieving a product that is sustainable, high-quality, and competitive.. The first session of The Road Ahead, a 3-day forum on cultural tourism took place in September 2003 at the Pamporovo Resort.. FAF brought together two important industries in the country: culture and tourism, with the goal of combining their power in order to advance sustainable development by encouraging a coherent, national marketing strategy aimed at promoting Bulgaria’s cultural tourism products to the international tourism community.. The second session of the initiative is now in the planning phase.. Visit the project s home page.. Feel the Music! presented a truly rare opportunity: for children and teens to learn from and be inspired by some of the best musicians and music educators in the country.. A cooperation between the World Foundation for Music Healing and Friendship Ambassadors Foundation, Feel the Music! was an interactive music program for children and teens who lost a parent or close family member on September 11th.. Designed to be fun and inspiring, Feel the Music! offered workshops taught by renowned professional musicians who love teaching.. Feel the Music! was designed to assist in the emotional recovery of children who lost a parent or close family member on September 11th, building resilience in bereaved children through educational and cultural music workshops and wellness programs for their parents.. Finding New Hope was an umbrella of projects that aspired to bring healing in the  ...   New York, and second: in the beautiful mountain resort of Borovetz, just one hour from Sofia (capital of Bulgaria), in April 2004.. An extension of the Finding New Hope program, A Universal Hug for Peace targeted specifically at the international community of 9/11, this program was created with generous support from the Rotary Clubs around the world, to offer support in the young victims healing.. Visit the project s home page.. The World Children’s Choir and FAF facilitated an international arts/peace camp in the summer of 2006 in Romania.. Choral program was run by the World Children’s Choir, based in the Washington D.. C.. area, and included US and local children.. The medium is music and the message is friendship.. The Balkan Youth Reconciliation Seminar Series (BYRSS) was created shortly after the bombings were over in Kosovo in 1999.. It brought together young people from the warring nations and their neighbors in an endeavor to seek a new path to peace, understanding and compassion through art and culture.. It was an attempt to build peace from the roots, right where it springs from: the heart of people; and it was a place for these young people to share their concerns and fears, their hopes and visions with others from this troubled region.. The series comprised of three subsequent sessions over the span of two years, in Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Budapest (Hungary) and Timisoara (Romania), during which participants explored their common heritage and learnt to respect their differences through the similarities they share.. The Festival of Light was an annual music and dance festival taking place at several locations in Bulgaria.. It brought together performing groups of many genres from the region and the United States to share their art and grow by the experience, and to build bridges of friendships over the geographical and cultural distance..
