Descriptive info: Introduction.. Our Ethical ISA.. Who are Cofunds?.. What is an ISA?.. How ISAs Work.. How Do You Buy Online?.. Fund Choice.. Risk.. Costs & Charges.. Other Investment Options.. All companies have a responsibility to respect human rights in their operations, regardless of the sector, country or context in which they operate.. Amnesty International works to challenge those companies whose work leads directly to human rights abuses and we believe that the socially responsible investment movement can influence corporate behaviour on this issue.. Investing ethically is one easy way that you can voice your concerns and help our efforts to call for companies to take Human Rights into consideration.. While Amnesty cannot endorse any specific investment product (we re better at researching human rights abuses) we are delighted that the Ethical Investment Co-operative provides an opportunity for customers to support our vital work and we re pleased that so many of our members are interested in the ethical options they offer.. As well as providing this option to online ISA subscribers, the Ethical Investment Co-operative have also donated half of their commission for financial advice taken by Amnesty supporters, which over the last 10 years amounts to over 50,000 towards our campaigns.. If you d like more information about Amnesty s work please visit.. www.. amnesty.. org.. uk.. Ethical ISA.. Our key focus for selecting an ISA to Amnesty supporters is to help you put the energy of your money in the direction of your values.. More and more of us are becoming aware that where we invest our money has a far greater impact than just on the capital growth for the investor.. Investing in companies with social and ethical responsibilities allows them to flourish, thereby encouraging others to respect human rights.. By investing ethically you really can make a difference to people s human rights around the world.. Our research considered a number of funds and having examined each of the funds criteria, as well as performance data we have selected the F C Stewardship Growth fund, given its strong commitment to socially responsible investment and particularly its policy on human rights.. The Stewardship Growth Fund was launched in 1984.. F C's Governance Sustainable Investment team is one of the largest of its kind and is active across a range of related issues and products.. Click here for further information on the Ethical ISA.. This offering will be available via the Cofunds platform, a fund supermarket, as this will allow for greater choice and flexibility going forward should any changes be deemed appropriate.. All you need to do is simply register for the on-line Co-funds service via the highlighted link below.. Our link.. http://ethicalmoney.. cofunds.. co.. uk/web/index.. aspx.. What is an ISA.. ISAs offer an attractive tax-favoured shelter to anyone aged 18 or over (16 or over for cash ISAs).. ISAs serve as a kind of wrapper to protect savings from tax, allowing individuals to invest monies up to maximum limits (by way of regular or single amounts) each tax year in a range of savings and investments and pay no personal tax at all on the income and/or profits received.. The main ISA benefits are:.. No personal tax (income or capital gains) on any investments in an ISA.. Income and gains from ISAs do not need to be included in tax returns.. Money can be withdrawn from an ISA at any time without losing the tax breaks.. ISA Maximum Contribution Limits.. You can invest up to the maximum amount each financial year, which runs from the 6th April until 5th April the following year.. The current ISA maximum contribution limits are:.. Overall Maximum 11,520.. Maximum in cash 5,760.. The annual ISA allowance is per individual.. This means a husband and wife, for example, can put up to 23,040 between them into ISAs each tax year.. The Basics of how ISAs Work.. There are two types of ISA:.. Stocks and shares, in the form of either individual shares or bonds, or pooled investments such as open-ended investment funds, investment trusts or life assurance investments.. Cash, usually containing a bank or building society savings account.. All of your allowance can be invested in stocks and shares, or you can split it by investing in cash (the maximum permitted) and the remainder in stocks and shares with either the same or a different provider.. For Example:.. You can invest up to 5,760 in a Cash ISA.. You can invest less than 5,760 in a Cash ISA more in a Stocks Shares ISA.. You can invest your full ISA allowance in a Stocks Shares ISA.. Cash ISA.. 5,760.. 3,000.. 0.. Stocks Shares ISA.. 8,520.. 11,520.. Total.. You will also be able to transfer money saved in previous years' cash ISA holdings to stocks and shares ISAs without affecting your current year's allowance.. It should be noted that it will not be possible to transfer in the opposite direction i.. stocks  ...   ISAs Work section, there are two types of ISA:.. Stocks and shares,.. in the form of either individual shares or bonds, or pooled investments such as open-ended investment funds, investment trusts or life assurance investments.. Cash,.. usually containing a bank or building society savings account.. The ISA we have selected for Amnesty supporters is a Stocks and Shares ISA and will therefore be exposed to investment risk, i.. it will rise and fall in line with market fluctuations.. Investment risk can be defined in the following categories:.. A Cash Only Investor.. is unwilling to take any risk of capital loss (other than a potential failure to keep pace with inflation) and would not feel comfortable if their capital fell in value.. A Defensive Investor.. is looking for an investment where the value of their capital should not fall in the short term and aims to produce returns that are comparable with those from a high street deposit account, but have the potential for some long term growth.. They would feel very uncomfortable if their investment rose and fell in value very quickly.. A Cautious Investor.. is looking for an investment which, while giving some potential for real returns, aims to produce returns that are at least as good as those from a high street deposit account.. A high level of security of their capital is a priority.. Whilst recognising that investment values will change, they would feel uncomfortable if their investments rose and fell in value very rapidly.. A Balanced Investor.. is looking for a balance of risk and reward, and whilst seeking higher returns than might be obtained from a deposit account, recognises that this brings with it a higher level of risk and that the value of their investment may fluctuate in the short term.. They would feel uncomfortable if the overall value of their investments were to fall significantly over a short period and would not be happy to see their capital eroded.. A Moderately Adventurous Investor.. is generally market aware and understands and is willing to accept a higher level of risk in return for the potential for higher returns in the longer term.. They recognise that this may result in the value of their portfolio fluctuating, possibly significantly, in the short term.. An Adventurous Investor.. is willing to accept a much higher level of risk in return for the potential for higher returns in the longer term.. They are aware that the risks are such that a significant percentage of the capital sum could be lost.. Risk Profile of the F C Stewardship Growth fund.. The F C Stewardship Growth fund would be categorised as.. Moderately Adventurous.. i.. They recognise that this may result in the value of their portfolio fluctuating, possibly significantly, in the short term.. However, you need to be aware that this is a generalisation of the fund and your personal circumstances.. will.. affect this risk rating, for instance if this is your only investment i.. you have no other deposit savings then this would be classed as adventurous.. Important: The factual details provided on this fund are for information only - this is known as a Direct Offer Promotion.. We aim to provide visitors with sufficient information to make an informed decision whether they wish to invest in the fund or not.. Descriptive info: What Is An ISA?.. What Is A UT/OEIC?.. Investment Options.. Model Portfolio Overview.. Model Portfolio Selection.. Model Portfolio Options.. Self-Select.. Managing Your Investments.. Transfer Of Existing Investments.. Quarterly Reviews.. Disclaimer.. As well as offering the facility for new purchases Cofunds also offer the option for existing clients to consolidate their existing investments via their free re-registration service.. What is a UT/OEIC.. Unit Trust (UT)/OEIC (Open Ended Investment Company).. OEICs/Unit Trusts are forms of collective investment, which allow individuals to participate in a large portfolio of assets by pooling their money together with other investors.. This gives the individual access to a much wider spread of holdings than can normally be achieved with smaller sums of money, which in turn reduces the risk.. The fund is divided into units or shares, which are valued on a daily basis and reflect the underlying value of the fund.. This value will fluctuate on a daily basis with market conditions.. Basically, OEICs and Unit Trusts are a flexible and relatively cheap way to invest in the stock market.. They are run and regulated in a similar way, and you can hold them within an ISA.. There are differences - an OEIC is set up as a company whereas a unit trust is a trust and you will usually find that unit trusts have two prices - the 'bid' price which is the lower price you receive when you sell, and the higher 'offer' price you pay to invest.. The difference between the two prices is commonly known as the bid/offer spread.. With an OEIC there is usually a single price to buy and sell shares, so it's easier to see the actual effect of charges.. However, unit trusts are expected to become 'single-priced' eventually, with some already so.. It is therefore important that you understand the way your investment charges are made.. Unlike ISAs Unit Trusts and OEICs are subject to certain tax liabilities including income tax and Capital Gains Tax.. What are the investment options?.. Model Portfolios - For your ISA and Unit Trust/OEIC investments.. We operate 3 ethical model portfolios which are based on different risk categories ranging from a defensive approach to adventurous.. View all your ISA/ Unit Trusts/ OEIC investments in one account and place dealing instructions online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.. You may hold investments which simply aren't performing but are restricted to the limited fund choice from your existing provider.. By transferring them to Cofunds you have a wider choice with over 1500 funds available from 90 different fund managers, including 50 ethical and environmental funds.. You can also hold cash and then move back into the stock market when you feel the time is right.. Remember, the value of investments can fall as well as rise so you could get back less than you invest and there is no guarantee that any new funds selected will perform better than your existing funds.. Easy to transfer -.. Transfer your ISAs/Unit Trusts/OEICs to Cofunds via their free re-registration service, meaning that your investments are never out of the market during the transfer process.. However please note, not all ISAs/Unit Trusts/OEICs are eligible for this service therefore, please do contact us to check if your investments can be transferred via this method.. -Transfer your existing Cash ISAs.. If you are aware of all the risks and wish to transfer your existing Cash ISA(s) to a Stocks Shares ISA, please contact us for further information.. Once the transfer process is complete and the proceeds are received by Cofunds they will initially be invested in the Cash Reserve fund, you can then switch into your chosen fund(s) free of charge.. It's important to remember Cash ISAs and Stocks and Shares ISAs are different.. Stocks Shares ISAs offer the potential for a significantly higher return for investors who are happy to forego the capital security of cash.. You have immediate access to your cash in most Cash ISAs and it is guaranteed (up to 85,000).. The value of investments and the income paid will fall as well as rise in a Stocks Shares ISA so you could get back less than you invest.. Interest on cash in a Cash ISA is paid gross.. Within a Stocks Shares ISA the income is only paid gross on corporate and government bonds, on everything else, including cash, the income is paid net of basic rate tax but doesn't incur higher tax rates.. Please note, you can transfer money from a Cash ISA to a Stocks Shares ISA, but not the other way around.. The quarterly reviews are published each March, June, September and December.. Please click on your relevant model portfolio below to view our comments for the last quarter and to see if we are suggesting any fund changes.. Balanced Model Portfolio - Sept 2013.. • Title: Ethical Investment | Ethical Funds
Descriptive info: Why Ethical Investment?.. Ethical Criteria.. Every day billions of pounds are lent or invested by banks, pension funds, insurance and investment companies on your behalf.. It's your pension, savings or investment, but you don't often get a say in what happens to it, unless you ask!.. Economic interests are increasingly influencing and dominating the political, social and environmental agenda across the world.. We believe that financial institutions need to be more aware of the social and environmental impacts of the companies that they invest in.. Ethical investment is an important part of this movement to help change corporate attitudes.. The traditional aim of companies is to say that 'our role is to maximise profit for share holders'.. We say that 'yes, we want to make a financial return, but not at any price'.. It is possible to profit with principles, in fact many companies are proving that by becoming more responsible corporate citizens, they are actually more profitable not less.. Getting it right first time really can pay dividends and that helps your savings as well.. Through your pensions and investments you own equities or shares in different businesses and these shares can give a vote to the shareholder.. A 'quality' ethical fund manager will use this vote to help influence improvements in corporate behaviour.. Ethical Investment is not just about influencing big companies, although that's an important agenda.. Why should you invest in businesses whose activities or behaviour you fundamentally disagree with? Ethical investment gives you the choice.. You can also invest in the industries of the future.. By changing your banking, or investing in ethical funds, you can focus money into exciting new developments in areas such as renewable energy, organic farming, healthcare and education.. To find out which ethical funds are in line with your ethical principles please refer to the ethical  ...   sector, but only in those companies which are deemed to be the best in their class, with say, a better record on the environment and human rights than others in their sector.. In this instance the fund's manager works with and actively encourages the companies that they invest in to adopt or improve social, governance and environmental practices.. This can involve meetings with senior management and voting at relevant shareholder meetings, i.. Annual General Meetings.. How do I know which funds are in line with my ethical/environmental principles?.. To help you assess which fund meets your ethical/environmental principles we have prepared an analysis of each fund based on the two different screening processes i.. positive and negative.. To view these analyses please click on the Positive Screening or Negative Screening button below and scroll, down through the funds to view the results.. The data in the charts has been collated with the assistance of EIRIS (Ethical Investment Research Services).. EIRIS assists Fund Managers with the screening process and is a subsidiary of The EIRIS Foundation (www.. eiris.. org), a leading UK charity working in the area of responsible investment.. EIRIS is a not-for-profit organisation, with over 25 years-experience of providing information on ethical finance.. Positive Screening.. The chart below looks at ethical funds which aim to support companies that engage in positive activities such as environmental conservation, community involvement, training and education etc.. Negative Screening.. The chart below looks at ethical funds which aim to avoid investing in certain activities, for example animal testing, military, tobacco etc.. The charts are collated from data supplied by EIRIS and Capita Financial Software including data from Financial Express..
