Here is the abstract for that presentation:.. This paper draws widely on theoretical sources, the voices of young people today, and my own interpretations to highlight enduring purposes of dance that cross boundaries of history and culture.. Some perennial and emerging problems in children's dance are also examined.. The role of dance for children is considered in light of the reality that millions of young people today are being deprived of basic human rights, including the time, space and energy to dance.. Inspired by futurist Robert Theobald and other visionary writers, the paper concludes on an optimistic note, proposing that with young people in the lead, dance's ancient meanings can be revisioned to help create a "culture of caring" for children worldwide.. The conference presentation will be supported with many visual examples, including images provided by daCi members.. Click on the pdf file below for the full paper..
