  • Title: Putting Information into the Hands of Those Who Can Use It | Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University (CASBS)
Descriptive info: Putting Information into the Hands of Those Who Can Use It.. A key part of the mission of CASBS is to make findings in behavioral science easily accessible.. For many years, scientists have made profound discoveries about behavior and the mental and emotional events that give rise to it, in individuals and in groups.. We seek to identify important discoveries, bring them out of the laboratory and classroom, and interpret their import so that they can be used by non-specialists.. We hold a variety of events to promote collaborations among Fellows, and facilitate cross-fertilization between academia and business, government, NGO, and foundation worlds.. Annual CASBS Behavioral Science Summit.. Our first annual CASBS Behavioral Science Summit (June 29, 2012) on the theme of Social meets Science was clearly a success.. The keynote addresses by two thought-provoking authors Malcolm Gladwell (author of.. Blink.. ,.. Tipping Point.. and.. Outliers.. ) and Steven Pinker (author of.. Blank Slate..  ...   part of the residential environment, we have two speaker series:.. Residents Wednesday Presentations:.. The weekly presentations are designed to inform fellows about the work carried out by colleagues and to seek points of cross-fertilization among different fields.. These presentations take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, and continue to 12:00 PM.. Lunch will follow immediately after each session, which is intended to encourage informal discussion of the issues that were addressed.. Each session relies on a unique CASBS format, which proved very successful at the Behavioral Science Summit.. This format consists of a very short presentation 7 minutes followed by Q A for the remainder of the time.. Two fellows will present each Wednesday.. Game-Changing Ideas:.. Game Changing Idea lectures take place once a quarter, and they feature a distinguished scholar or practitioner and are often tied to book release tours.. A reception follows the lecture, allowing attendees to exchange ideas with one another..

Thursday, January 16, 2014 -.. 4:00pm.. 5:00pm.. Multimedia and American Liberalism from World War II to the Psychedelic Sixties.. We commonly think of the psychedelic 60s as an explosion of creative energy and freedom that arose in direct revolt against the social restraint and authoritarian hierarchy of the early Cold War years.. Yet, as Fred Turner reveals in..
