Title: News from ASO Descriptive info: News News from ASO.. Update - Medicaid and Managed Care.. Parent Category:.. CLICK HERE FOR AN FAQ.. regarding the approximately 37,000 children with special health care needs transition into managed care.. The following is an update on the 37,000 Ohioan’s who are currently enrolled on the ABD Medicaid Benefit Program (aged, blind and disabled) that are moving to a Medicaid managed care program beginning July 1.. st.. If your child has a Medicaid card, how do you know if your child’s Medicaid program is moving to managed care? The following situations are.. not.. moving to a managed care plan:.. Eligible for Medicare.. In a nursing home, long-term care facility, ICF-DD, or some other kind of institution.. Eligible for Medicaid through a spend down.. In PACE, PASSPORT or some other Medicaid waiver programs such as I/O, Level One, Transitions, and Home Health Care.. Receiving services through the Ohio Department of Health’s Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH) with one or more of the following conditions: Cystic fibrosis, Hemophilia, Cancer.. If your child is not in one of the above situations and they have a Medicaid card, they will be moving to a Medicaid managed care plan (MCP).. The individual on Medicaid should of received a letter, see copy of wording below, in late March about choosing a MCP.. You will receive another letter soon, if you have not chosen a managed care plan.. Here are the guidelines around choosing a plan:.. Consumers have 18 calendar days (roughly 4/16/2013) from the mailing date of the original notice mailed on 3/28/2013 to move to managed care plan.. Consumers who have not currently chosen a plan will receive a second letter on April 19.. State Enrollment Brokers will also be trying to reach families by phone to explain the MCP choices to them and try to get their selection of a MCP.. In that second letter, families will be told the MCP that will be selected for them if they do not make a selection themselves.. Families will be given an additional 11 calendar days to make a selection.. Once on a plan either selected by the family, or assigned by the State, the family will still be able to change to a different MCP up until 6/14.. After 7/1/13, they will be able change at any time up until June, 2014.. After that, they can change a plan only during open enrollment (late Fall) or for a just cause reason such as their provider not being on the provider panel for the MCP.. Important! Reduction of Services expected:.. Marla Root from ASO.. has been meeting and discussing the medical and behavioral healthcare needs of the autism community with the Medicaid managed care plans.. We do expect to see a reduction in access to home health care (core benefits) services such as personal care aides.. This program is also called Healthchek.. We do not yet understand how a medical necessity determination will be done by the MCP’s so we do not understand the level of reduction of services.. This reduction plan was put into place by the state and not by the MCP’s.. As soon as we have more information about this we will get it to you!.. Please feel free to email Marla Root at.. mroot@autismohio.. org.. for more information.. Here is the language from the first letter sent in late March:.. Medicaid Children with Special Health Care Needs to Enroll in Ohio’s Medicaid.. Managed Care Program.. Who?.. There are approximately 37,000 Ohio children who are currently eligible for Medicaid due to a disability.. and who are receiving a monthly medical card.. (This will not affect children eligible for Medicaid on.. waivers; or children who reside in institutional settings; or children who receive both Medicare and.. Medicaid benefits.. ).. What?.. Ohio Medicaid understands that ... managed care plans.. If you do not choose a plan, Ohio Medicaid will choose one for you.. If.. you are comfortable with letting Ohio Medicaid choose your managed care plan, there is nothing else.. you will need to do.. Once you have selected a plan, we encourage you to contact the plan to discuss.. your child’s needs and any concerns you may have.. Ohio Medicaid will send the selected plan your.. child’s health history information from your previous Medicaid experience to help them with having a.. better understanding of your child’s health care needs.. If you are not happy with the plan selected by you or chosen for you then you can select another.. managed care plan in the future.. Instructions on how and when you can select a different managed.. care plan will be included in a future enrollment letter.. Ohio Medicaid is committed to making sure that your child receives the best possible health care.. We.. believe you and your child will benefit from the outstanding services provided by Ohio’s Medicaid.. managed care plans.. We look forward to working with you as you make this transition to a new and.. improved way of receiving Medicaid benefits.. If your child has been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, cancer, or hemophilia there may be other support.. available through the Ohio Department of Health, Bureau of Children with Medical Handicaps.. For more.. information please email the Ohio Department of Health, Bureau of Children with Medical Handicaps at.. BCMH@odh.. gov.. Drive 4UR Community - Mark Thomas Ford, Cortland..
