FROM THE 25% ME GROUP REGARDING THE CFS/ME RESEARCH COLLABORATIVE CHARTER (CMRC).. MAY 2013.. Voices from the Shadows.. DVD Release.. What do you think of our new Web Site?.. Click here for more News Stories.. The 25% ME Group is a unique nationwide charitable organisation managed entirely by volunteers (most of whom are severely affected by ME) and was set up to offer support services to those severely affected by ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), and their carers.. The group is also supported by one full and one part-time members of staff.. We provide a wide range of services to people affected by severe ME, many of whom are virtually housebound and/or bedbound.. (Please refer to the "About Us" section for more service details and how to join the group).. ME has been classified by the World Health Organisation (ICD 10 G 93.. 3) as a neurological illness affecting approximately 250,000 individuals within the UK.. Of this number, approximately 25% of those affected will go on to develop severe ME which is an extremely debilitating illness.. Sometimes it lasts for  ...   sleep temperature disturbance.. cardiovascular symptoms.. digestive disturbances.. neurological disturbances.. There has been much research into this condition, and a variety of causes have been suggested (immunological, endocrine, muscoskeletal, neurological etc), but no single factor has been identified as the cause of this condition (which is known to affect all social classes, ages and ethnic groups) although there is often a viral trigger, probably associated with an enterovirus.. The condition affects the central nervous system and the immune system, varying greatly in both severity and duration of the illness for the sufferer.. Since the symptoms experienced by ME sufferers are similar to other illnesses, such as gastric disorders, MS, and fibromyalgia, this can delay a formal diagnosis being given.. The 25% ME Group do not offer specific medical advice to individuals on what treatment(s) may or may not be suitable to meet individual(s) needs.. We as a group accept and recognise that what works for some does not work for others.. We would also stress that any advice or information which we are able to provide, should not be considered or interpreted to mean that we support any one form of treatment, nor do we advocate that any advice or information provided be substituted for information and/or guidance provided by your GP or any other medical specialist.. The 25% ME Group promotes an equal opportunities policy.. Charity No: SC034265.. |.. home.. about.. contact.. campaign.. Info.. fundraising.. members.. If you have, and you would like to include a gift to the 25% ME Group in your Will, please get in touch with us at the office in Troon.. If you would like to find out our more about this, we have an A4 information sheet available from the office in Troon, or visit the following link on our website:.. Please Click Here.. Percy The Piggybank.. As you will know, we are constantly looking for ways in which to raise funds on behalf of the group.. We receive no mainline funding and are reliant upon donations from individuals, and trust funds etc.. These days competition is even more fierce than ever and we continue to apply for funding with little success I m afraid.. The group endeavours to raise funds in any way it ca.. n and we are always very grateful to those members who undertake fundraising initiatives and continue to support the group.. You have our most grateful thanks.. We are also well aware that fundraising is very difficult for our members because of the awful constraints you are under due to the many problems of having severe ME.. We have therefore come up with the idea of members, if at all possible, basically putting away 1 coin every week on our behalf and then donating the coins you manage to save at the end of the year to the group.. With this in mind, you will notice; for those who receive a newsletter, the inclusion of our exclusive fundraising sticker featuring Percy the Piggybank.. Those who don't have a sticker, then you can hopefully just stick a reminder of some sort to a jar :).. The idea behind this is that you stick Percy onto an old jar or tin and feed him a pound coin each week as he is always hungry!!.. At the end of the year simply empty the jar, take the contents to your local bank or ask a family member, friend or carer to do this on your behalf and simply donate the proceeds to the 25% ME Group.. This could either be done by writing a cheque/postal order for the amount you have managed to save or by using the Donate button on our website to pay the amount raised to us via Paypal.. Alternatively, you could simply set up a Standing Order for 5 per month which would amount to the same thing as saving your pound coins in a jar!!.. We are of the firm belief that every little helps and if many of us are raising a pound a week, this could lead someway to protecting the future of the group and enable us to continue to support your needs in various ways, including the continued provision of the much needed advocacy service.. We sincerely hope you will be able to join in our latest fundraising venture.. Many thanks to all our members for their continued support.. -----------------------------------------------------------------.. PLEASE HELP US TO RAISE FUNDS VIA THIS BRILLIANT FUNDRAISING IDEA.. • Title: 25% ME GROUP Support Group for Severe M.E. Sufferers
Descriptive info: main fundraising information page.. WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.. The majority of our members are virtually housebound but some are so severely affected by ME that they are completely bed-bound and reliant upon members of their family and carers to provide the 24-hour care they so desperately need.. This type of condition inevitably leads to the sufferer becoming very isolated and cut off from the rest of society.. Our support group helps to alleviate this isolation not only by providing practical and emotional support and advice but also by facilitating those members who are able to interact to take part in some of our special interest groups such as our Prayer Group, or access our Listening Ear Service and Disability Fund etc,.. and by encouraging regular communication between members themselves via the group s extensive Members Contact List.. We also produce two lengthy newsletters per year along with a mailing in April which focuses on our annual ME Awareness campaign and have an extensive and informative website, all of which requires substantial running costs.. We receive no statutory funding for core  ...   sustained, those very same people would be left even more isolated and without any form of support for their condition..
